NWN Toolset SNAFU?
I got the two Neverwinter expansions for Christmas and I have to say that, on balance, I was pleased with them. The new camera controls are nice, and the engine shows some tweaks like scripted camera perspective and random plot elements.
I have finished both expansions now, and I was thinking of testing out the new elements of the toolset before playing through again. I started to load a little dungeon I made for tool experiments, and I get a warning message that basically says: Your toolset has two expansions enabled. Your mod isn't expansion enabled. Opening the mod with this toolset will make it playable only for people with both expansions. If you want to edit it without this happening use a toolset that isn't expansion enabled. Do you want to continue?
I hadn't counted on this. I don't even personally know anybody with both expansions. There might be a way for me to get another toolset somewhere; I haven't researched this yet, but this looks like the sort of thing that can really hurt a mod community. Modders are the most likely to buy the expansions, and then the only mods they can make are for people with all the expansions.

Seriously uncool. How well thought out was this?

I''m pretty sure all you have to do to get around this is launch the toolset with the original NWN disk in the drive. I haven''t tried it though.
BTW,Ihave both expansions - as do many people on this site, I''ll betcha''. Maybe you should try your mod out on us...

Looks like you might be able to maintain multiple environs.

We could always believe that Atari is forcing people to upgrade to play new mods, but there''s also the fact that it''d be bloody hard to put a version on all the toolset components (monsters, scripts, item properties, etc) and filter out which ones don''t apply. Plus, some of the patches allow content to be used in previous versions. (For instance, 1.61 allows demonflesh golems in expansion-free NWN.)
I''m with ralycdan on the playtesting. I''ve got both as well.

Both here too!
I''ll be picking up HOTU pretty soon, at which point I''ll then have both as well, Gorack.
Both here

Both here too!

See, Gorak? You have a fine community of testers and players right at your fingertips.
Now where''s our damn mod?!?

sh*t, you finished them both already? I haven''t even finished SoU yet, not to mention HotU. Kudos to you my man. That is the kind of dedication I use to have.

I''ve got both as well. Honestly, I think anyone who actively plays NWN will have all the expansions. They add too much in the way of good material to pass up.
Not to mention HotU comes with that sexy five disc case. That was worth the whole purchase right there.
It is good to know that I''ll have some players. I''m just having a little trouble getting back into the scripting. I''ve seen stories of people writing their mods over a weekend. That isn''t happening here. I''ll try to have it done in 2 or 3 weeks.
As for my Neverwinter dedication, I just really like it. NWN has been one of the few new games that I play with the fervor of the old days.
A good mod takes time. No need to rush.
I may try this, but I was hoping for an INI file I could edit or a file I could move or something.
Taking a character through your own special ""training grounds"" first doesn''t hurt, either
Still, I couldn''t believe you had finished SoU when I called you on Friday.

Bah, this from the guy who was his own DM during most of his pen and paper days.
Do we really want to bring the 80''s into this? Think carefully.
