R.I.P My Beloved 360
Well folks, after 11 months of love, care, and careful nurturing, my beloved 360 has moved onto to a better place. While playing GoW this weekend, it froze with a very loud buzz and hasn't worked properly since (can't ever get past the initial 360 logo during boot up. Luckily for me I'm still within the 1 year window and can swap it out for another but I still don't understand how she could crap out like this when I've taken such great care. *sigh*
Anyway, for those of you who have gone through this already, what the easiet (most cost efficient) way to move saved items from the deceased console to the the new one? I was going to buy a mem card but they're only 64MB and are $40 freaking dollars!

I agree with the "don't send the HD in"...but if you want a memory card, I got my 64MB one off of eBay for $22.
P.S. My condolences. I'd have a moment of silence, but my 360 is too frickin' loud...

I'm swapping the 360 for a brand new one at EBgames so I'm pretty sure they're going to want the HD for the console that I'm exchanging. Also, maybe the hard drive is part of the console malfunction so I should get everything brand new.

All these posts have me terrified. Last night I gave my 360 a massage and a dozen roses.
Edit:
God I hope my 360 is a girl, otherwise...awkward!

Yeah.. the guy on the phone from MS was very specific about me putting "ONLY THE SYSTEM ITSELF" in the shipping box when it gets here. No hard drive, no cables, nothing else.

I guess the HDD and cables don't take to the furnace very well.

My launch unit is okay too. I will continue to cross my fingers.
This is sad. There is a support group, you know.

You all have me worried. I've just had mine for 2 months and mine is already occasionally getting disc read errors on flawless discs (by flawless I mean, the first time I put Gears of War in the drive after opening it, it got the error on the same day, I looked at the disc and couldn't even find a spec of dust much less a finger print or scratch). I've had this happen on 2 games so far: Viva Piñata and GoW. Viva Piñata I thought was due to a microscopic scratch that apparently was caused by my 11 month old bumping the 360 while I was playing, but the Gears of War unreadable disc error has me thinking my DVD drive may be flaky/bad.
I also have problems with Xbox Live sometimes, but I think those are due to my Linksys wireless gaming adapter (the cheap one).
I just hope that if mine is going to die, it does it sooner rather than later.

My launch console is still going strong. Only Dead Rising gave me Disc Read Errors. I survived the great Chromehounds crash of 06. I can only hope I have many more years.

My launch day system is still chugging along. Love it so far. But what is this XBL you speak so freely of...

I believe my 360 is just about at the end of its rope. I've been getting Dirty Disc Errors all today from every game I've tried on it. I'll probably wait until it gets unbearable and then call MS up for a replacement.

The Roomate's 360 is giving me some red sections of the logo thing when it boots up.
I took the HD out and out it back on, and it seems to clear it up, but now the controllers wont sync..or even a wired controller wont work. pleaseohpleaseohplease tell me it isn't dead. I'm the only one who plays it and he's gonna kill me if it is. The machine was purchased on Xmas morning too so it's not even a month old yet. (well barely)

That's pretty much what happened to mine. After a while it just wouldn't load.
It isn't your fault though and it's under warranty.

Sadly, I've just joined this exclusive (well, not that exclusive) club. My 360 gave me the feared 3 red quadrants of death today, and it had intermittently started freezing on 'Gears of War' lately. This morning, it started freezing all over the place, not just in Gears. What sucks about this is that I bought an unopened unit off eBay last July and never got a receipt for it, so now I'll more or less have to pay to have it fixed, since I have no firm proof that the console is actually less than a year old. I've got someone at MS support looking into it, but I'm not holding my breath for a warranty fix. The old girl: she served me well.

That sucks, dhaelis. I'm tempted to start putting together a spreadsheet detailing the manufacturing date and the death date of 360's. Just so I could put together a deathclock for my 360.

It's amazing how many problems we've seen with 360s, and yet we're so supportive of the platform. Just goes to show what a great Live experience it is, I think.

As good of a place as any. Mine died today after I bought it for Chromehounds back in March of '06. This one was manufactured on 11-22-2005. About a year and four months of working.

My system died too. I got it a couple days after Christmas. I sent it in, I should have it back in a couple of weeks. Booo-urns!

I'm on my second machine as well - this newest one was made in November of 2006, so I'm hoping they fixed some of the manufacturing issues...
But I did just start getting read errors the other day that, I hope, do not portend of things to come...
I just picked up #3. First one made it almost a year, the second one less than a month. I'm glad I got the 2 year replacement plan from best Buy when I bought the first one.
