Chess Players?

Are any of you goodjers avid chess players? I used to play quite a bit and now I'm starting to get back into playing again. If anyone wants to get some daytime games going, do a quick and free registration on http://www.chessmaniac.com and I can send you a challenge. It's not the greatest of chess sites but it's the only one that's not blocked at work for me.

I love chess though I suck at it. Or I'm mediocre at best. Definitely no games at work for me though; I'm lucky enough I haven't been axed for posting yet.

chrisg and I used to play on redhotpawn.com, but I haven't seen him post in a while. I personally don't have time for it at work, Macworld is coming up

I haven't played chess in a really long time. I played regularly until I started beating my father more often than not, then once someone challenged me online and I thoroughly whooped their ass. They said they felt depressed because they hadn't been beaten in years, and they never spoke to me again.

I never broke in to the memorization of strategies, let alone naming of gambits and such. Short of that point, I enjoy a good game.

Well, I'm on there so let me know if you register and we can play a few friendly games.

I love the game.

I'm worse at it than maybe any game I've ever played and have shown no signs of ever getting any better at it.

I can count the number of games that I've won on one hand and I probably played a couple hundred.

I eventually stopped playing.

Sidenote: I played a board game called Abalone on Monday with my brother and after one game took us an hour and a half to finish we decided they should have named it "Chess for Dummies"

It plays a lot like Chess when you start getting into it and understanding how it works but it doesn't have all the crazy complications and different moves and there's really nothing to memorize.

Great game.

Well I wish I had more time for posting and playing chess that is for sure. Currently setting up my own business and I am running a bit short on time for both these days. I hope I will find time to post more again when I have sorted several things out. For anyone interested in chess games online, redhotpawn.com is the place to go. Registration is free and you can analyze your board while you play.

Souldaddy: you nick was shadows2 on redhotpawn then? I recently logged in and found I still had a game running. I felt very ashamed for forgetting it completely .

Great game. I've played it 'over the board' off and on for a number of years. Once in awhile I'll play Fritz or Chessmaster or other electronic types. But usually I just don't have the time anymore. AND my mind drifts way more now:>) My brother tries to get me to sign up in Chessworld I think it is. Costs, but lot's of features. He's somewhat hardcore with a solid rating now. Still, the game fascinates me to no end.

I haven't played in a while but I guess I still remember a couple of things.

I've signed up at redhotpawn, the name is boysetsfire99. Also send a game invite (well actually started a game) to jakeleg and Gaald, hope it can happen.

93, how does chessmaniac work? Is it in real time or can you move when you logon like redhotpawn? I'd really like to play but I sleep during the day. Also, if I subscribe there will I get a lot of spam? That page is bloated with ads.

It's not real time and you can play short games (30 mins, 1 hour, etc.) or longer games where you can have up to 14 days to make a move. The page is bloated with ads but I haven't gotten one piece of email or spam. The only reason I'm on this site is because it's the only one I can access at work!

93_confirmed - You might try the URL: "www.chessatwork.com" It is the same site as redhotpawn, but under a different banner/url. That one might not be blocked for you and you can play games with redhotpawn people.

Count me in. Although I'm very likely to loose every game.

I finally found the "buddy list" section. In case anyone else hasn't realized it's there, just click My Home and you'll see My Buddies.

Looks like I need to fire Chessmaster back up. This is showing how rusty my game has become.

I have Chessmaster from a couple of years ago with the idea of going through the tutorials, but don't recall ever actually winning a game at any skill levels. I'm still fuzzy on certain things like "en passant" and when the king (or is it queen?) and a rook exchange places. So other than not having a firm grasp of the rules and never actually winning a game, I'm a freaking expert!

A pretty slick system so far. The email notification is nice, and the opportunity to sit and stew over moves (or, so far, openings) is fun.
