Like I said in the other thread, I haven't played this yet. Is there anything I'm going to need to do in advance, create a character or anything?
When you log on to Xbox Live for the first time you'll be prompted to create a character in the P.E.C. mode. This involves choosing a sex, face, clan tag, and changing clothing and armor. All of these items are optional and can be changed at any time.
Lag used to be a lot worse back in the day. Hell, it took Jesus 3 days to respawn.

Favorite part of the evening... I think it was Danjo that was sniping up in the church tower. I climbed the rope to the roof, snuck up behind him, and BLAM, Raging Bull to the back of the head.
My favorite part of the evening was when Lobster said "I can hear you guys calling me 'shield boy.'"
EDIT: Yeah, Swampy, I think we started to see some really good tactics last night. It played more like Rainbow Six 3 than Gears, that's for sure. The cover system adds to the game but doesn't dominate it. Last week people mostly camping the defending spots, this week everyone spread out more, and we had good firefights throughout the maps. Levels I didn't get any respect to, like Border Town, seemed much more dynamic and fun. I think 12 players or more is the sweet spot.
PS. Anyone know what "Rainbow Six" stands for?
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Rainbow Six is fictional character John Clark's position as director of the counter-terrorist unit Rainbow that debuted in the 1998 novel Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy. The book was adapted into a successful series of tactical first-person shooter computer and video games, and is a planned future film tentatively set for release in 2007.
I had a good time last night. Danjo was tearing me up with the XM-26 auto-shotty. After you all left, Fly and I spent some time with the Terrorist hunt and some of the maps are f'ing hard on realistic difficulty with high enemy density.

Halfway there! There is actual symbolism to both words, "rainbow" and "six."
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
The "Rainbow" part signifies that it's a multi-national organization. The "Six" part may or may not have to do with the number of nations on its roster.
Last night was OK. It feels a lot like GRAW jammed into tight spaces. The cover system is kinda frustrating. Why is my guy vibrating himself on the corner like that? I wasn't even moving the stick at all.
Also, this may have something to do with the amount of armor on your target, but I can snipe across large distances with the MP9 submachine gun and take out guys that I wouldn't have been able to take out with the G3AKC assault rifle. What gives?
I don't think I'd enjoy this game if it weren't for the fact that I was playing with and shooting GWJ'ers. Last night it was...
Game: YOYOSON COMMITTED SUICIDE Me: Ohh, that's what that button does...
15 minutes later.
Game: [GWJ]PYROMANFO HAS JOINED Game: [GWJ]PYROMANFO HAS KILLED A TEAMMATE Game: [GWJ]PYROMANFO COMMITTED SUICIDE Pyro: So that's what that button does...
In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx
The "Six" is the position that John Clark, or in the game, Domingo Chavez, holds.
I'm gonna fire up Raven shield again this week. I miss my m-14 :/

My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle. Whoa! My Gamercard
Yoyoson got the "rainbow" part right, Sinitar got the "six" part right. Six is the common military callsign for the leader of a unit. 1 is the personnel officer, 2 is intelligence, 3 is operations (the guy who writes the plan), and 4 is logistics. I believe 5 is the XO (2nd in command) and 7 is the sergeant major (chief NCO).
Points to Lobster.

I use the G3 in single player as my secondary, and keep it suppressed and on single shot with a 6X scope. Closest thing to a silent, non-useless sniper rifle you'll get. Though that MTA is very nice too.

Good games! Sry, for dropping from the last game. System locked up... again.
I finally got promoted to Private First Class! Unlocking the following:
3 system lockups.
7 disconnects from game session.
Awesome... can't wait to try it out some more.

So, good lime last night?

Question:
If someone with a SAW is hammering at a shieldboy, will he be off balance and pretty much worthless, or is he more like a walking tank?
