Join the GWJ clan for a draft in Magic Online. We'll be drafting Time Spiral this time around. You must provide 4 boosters of Time Spiral. One booster will be the ante, which the clan leader will take. The other three boosters will be used for the draft. We will draft using the software's drafting process and determine first round pairings based upon how the program sets it up. Once that has been determined, all matches will be conceded and we will then play 4 rounds of swiss. We'll work out the details as we play. When creating the match make sure you set a time limit of 50 minutes. Things we still need to determine:

Prize Payout
Play out Top 4

- Prize Payout - I think that the 1st place finisher should at least get a draft set and think 3221 would be all right.
- Play out the Top 4 - I'm all for playing out the Top 4, but it would get late, so not playing would be just fine by me as well.

Hehe, well I will have Monday off so going late wouldn't be a problem for me.

If we go late that prize payout looks fine, if not then I guess Fed's idea looks fine.

Since you seem to be more active again Mumford, would you like the leadership back?

If we play it out, I think mum's payout is best. I also suggest that we might all want to trade a pack to badferret ahead of time and just let him handle the paying out - I think there was some confusion last time, which was caused by what I'll call the "phantom pack", which is the one that a winner would contribute to the prize pool, but usually doesn't actually trade to anyone. Giving ferret (or whoever) a pack ahead of time would alleviate that.

Really, really hope to make it. I'm very much FINALLY back in a Magic-playing mood now!

Fed suggested just giving the top 4 2-2-2-2, right? Seems fair if there's no playoff.

I suppose I could become the acting leader again if you no longer want it. I have to get back into the swing if I'm going to put up a fight at the Extended PTQs.

Yes, you should be. Time Spiral is a lot of fun to draft. Wizards really nailed it again with this set. As much fun as I had with Ravnica, I'm finding Time Spiral to be even more fun. It's not as challenging as Ravnica was, but it's still interesting.

Well you are the founder and have your website devoted to the subject, and I am bad about dissapering during the beta periods, if v3 (like that exist) provides for officers then I'm all for that.

So everyone give Mumford their pack on draft night.

I should be there, just have to make sure I have dinner early. I've never played a swiss so even though it's been explained to me, I don't really understand, will just see how it works out.

Someone should definitely collect the prize packs beforehand, too much confusion last time. 4-2-2-2-2 is a few too many packs Mumford. If we get eight people 4-2-1-1 sound good? If an odd number like 6 or 7 we'll need to come to a concensus at the time of the draft I guess.

Leap - Mum's actually got it right, but it confused me, too: he wrote "something something 4 2-2-2-2." I missed the missing hyphen.

Don't be hard on yourself, Leap, your eyes practically draw that extra hyphen in there!

Cool, finally got my wireless sorted yesterday, and MTGO downloaded last night. Hopefully I can make it. When you say 1:00am on the morning of the 4th, is that GMT or some American time? (PST etc..) If it is GMT, then I can't make it. Actually if it is American time I can't make it either as that would be about 6:00am for me!

I'll have to join the clan too. My MTGO username is Torq as well. See you around!

The start time is 7pm CST, or 8pm PST, I believe. I think the calendar adjusts the time based on the zone you have in your profile.

bugger it all to heck.

I may not be able to play on sunday. Not because I can't make it on time, but because I can't purchase the booster packs. Paypal is being dumb, and my account resolution isn't resolving very quickly or efficiently, having been 10 days since the "3-5 business days" they said it would take to resolve. Unless they only work on weekends. Or have some strange definition of "business day" that I am unfamiliar with.

If I'm there, I'm there... but I can't assume I will be.

Moo.

Dunno, maybe, maybe not. 6 is still fairly decent for a draft, below that and I'd prefer not to.

Well, that was pretty fun.

We only had 6 players, but we did a 3v3 team draft which worked out pretty well. The teams were: Unforseen, LeapingGnome and TheWalt against mumford, Strewth and Badferret. Team Unforseen pulled it out by a match, making it a very close set of rounds, pretty nice.

I've got packs for Leaping, so next time you see me on, I'll send them over.

I've also put up a tentative event for 1/15. If that works for everyone, great, otherwise we can work it out. Check it out here.

Yeah, was a good time although started about 45 minutes late. That draft was probably the weirdest draft I've done, the first two packs were very incoherent. I agonized over the first pick ended up taking the Walk the Aeons. I hestitated so much because 1. I've never played with the card so while it seemed good, I wondered how useful it would actually be, and 2. It was double U so I was committing blue as main color with the very first pick.

I think my second pick of a very mediocre pack was a rift bolt so I picked up a few other red cards thinking I would go U/R, but I guess Red was heavily drafted because I didn't get much more. The signals were very confusing. I ended up with a little in all the colors and about five picks into the second pack decided it would be U/B and in the third pack was lucky to pick up some good black removal.

Playing U/B it was a very slow deck with average mana cost over 4.5 and I was worried I would get totally owned by a fast G/R or Sliver deck. Luckily Timespiral in general is a slow format so I was almost always able to stabilize at 6 mana by turn 8 and along with a few suspend creatures and two morphers, I was still able to use my early turns for something. I did end up winning at least three games with Walk the Aeons. In my matches I went 2-1, 2-1, 2-0 for a record of 3-0. It was a fun time and I like the different format, the other draft it was play one match and you're out, playing three matches definitely felt more worthwhile for the cost.
