PETA is insane

Just how demented are these people?
Quote:
PETA activists - including cuddly, costumed raccoons and foxes - are making guest appearances outside performances of The Nutcracker across the country this holiday season with a cheeky message of compassion. As children arrive to see the "Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy," some will be unaware that their mothers are already starring in a real-life horror story! PETA will be there to greet any fur-clad moms and their children with their newest anti-fur leaflet-PETA Comics presents..."Your Mommy Kills Animals!" Kids will see the bloody truth behind their moms' pretentious pelts. Accompanied by graphic photographs of skinned carcasses and animals languishing on fur farms, children will read: "Lots of wonderful foxes, raccoons, and other animals are kept by mean farmers who squish them into cages so small that they can hardly move. They never get to play or swim or have fun. All they can do is cry-just so your greedy mommy can have that fur coat to show off in when she walks the streets."

I''m a member of People Eating Tasty Animals.
PETA has fallen apart. It used to be a lot more level-headed, but obviously something in their leadership snapped.

Odd that they are so against fur yet anyone who goes against them risks being skinned.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
Yeah whatever happened to the naked model fur protests? Now that''s a protest where everybody wins.
How do they tell between fake & real fur?
Also, why are they not at biker rallies harrassing all the leather (dead animal skin) clad bikers?

Because they would likely be turned into belts themselves if they tried that.
Reagan understood that the key to peace was never arms control. Security had nothing to do with the number of weapons, it had everything to do with the intention and power of those who possessed them. - Charles Krauthammer
I really hate people who believe they were put on this world for one reason, to save (fill in blank: humanity, animals, trees, guns, homosexuals, the economy, God, morals, or anything else), yet are too f*cking dumb to understand that its ok for other people to disagree with them and that other people may not want to be saved.
You know, I''m very much in favor of giving fair treatment to animals (i.e. stopping animal cruelty).
However, it''s rare that PETA actually acts in a reasonable manner. I''m reminded of the classic Onion article where PETA commandos raided a lab and freed some rabbits, killing many scientists in the process. It was hilarious, but disturbingly close to reality for too many members of PETA.
I''m reminded of the bloom county cartoon, where eventually Binkley (or was it opus??) ends up hanging from a tree so he won''t accidentally step on any bugs. It''s then pointed out that he''s killing microbes when he breathes. he eventually is convinced to come down and have some pizza.
I''m also reminded of anti-abortion protestors shoving pictures of dead fetuses in the faces of teenage girls going to planned parenthood clinics.
Call me old-fashioned, but I think there is an enormous difference between human life and animals. Maybe that''s just me...
Now, if the pro-life crowd tracked down any children of a mother that had an abortion and said ''Your mommy killed your little brother'', or went to the parents of the mother that has an abortion and said ''Your daughter killed your grandchild'', I might say the tactics are similar.
My problem with this is not that they are trying to change people''s minds about fur by showing them the pictures...it is that they are manipulating children and involving them in a very adult conversation. There is no need at all for a child to be brought into this conversation, and shame on them for doing it.

I agree with you Johnny. I wonder if in our litigation happy society, they will be sued by one of the parents for emotional distress of the child by looking at the pictures?
I''m not equating the two. However, I would argue that both tactics are equally ineffective, and are abusive. If they were effective maybe you could argue about the abusive part.
My unspoken point, howeer, is that there are many reasons for a teenaged girl to goto planned parenthood, one of them being to get birth control. If anti-abortion people scare them away from getting birth control...I''m not guessing that leads to less abortions, or less unwanted children.
If you want to stop abortions, goto a clinic and offer to take a teenage girl into your house, and help support one and raise the other. There are pro-life folks who do this, and they have my utmost respect. Spending your summer waving grotesque pictures, is just that. Inflammatory and ineffective.

Sorry Ral, every thread doesn''t need to turn into a Pro-bush anti-Bush us vs. them topic.

Damn you forum Nazi!
Although I''m not sure why you felt the need. We can talk about the uselessness of anti-fur protests and anti-abortion protests, but not anti-war protests? I don''t get that distinction.

Don''t sass me Ral, I can smell a derailment a mile away. Or in this case, about four more posts and this thread would turn into the same discussion had in about 4000 other threads.
Back on topic, I''ve always found the best thing PITA ever did was have celebrities take their clothes off.

PITA is probably a more accurate acronym
Pain In The Ass
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
Now, the anti-abortion people could do the same thing, but who''d want to see a bunch of old people naked?

The PITA (I like that) people get models of similar mindset to take off their clothes. Don''t make me track down more ugly protester pictures. Protesting is an inherently ugly activity.
The difference between fur and leather, they say, is as follows:
To skin leather, the animals (cattle) are just slaughtered the good ol'' fashioned way, i.e. head-bolted or electrocuted, which is OK.
To skin fur, the animals (rodents and small predators) are either gassed or electrocuted anally or genitally, which is cruel.

I''m just amazed we all agree on something.
I''m a pitbull advocate (a horribly misunderstood breed). I can''t stand PETA because their solution the problem of people using pitbulls for fighting is to eliminate the breed.
By the same token we can get rid of the fur problem by wiping those species out as well. It really makes your head hurt.
I agree. Pitbulls aren''t the problem, it''s all the morons who shouldn''t own them that''s the problem.
I went to a wolf ranch once, which was run by a very intelligent woman. If you wanted to buy one, there was a lengthy process where she evaluated you to make sure that you would provide a suitable home and environment, as wolves aren''t dogs and shouldn''t be treated that way.
Breeds of animal that have a particularly high possibility of volatile behavior simply need to have the proper environment in which to live and be treated well. These animals also often tend to be the most loyal and intelligent ones.
So, if we were head-bolting the minks, all would be well? Or if we were genitally electrocuting our hamburgers?

At least they aren''t anally gassed.
Well, if Saddam gets out of jail, he has a potential career there.

Head-bolting the minks is impractical since it punctures the fur, I guess.
