Dexter 11-27-06 - "Father Knows Best" (spoilers)

I didn't mind this episode as a bit of a breather after the rapid fire pace of the last couple. It's weird to see Dexter as the one being manipulated instead of the mastermind behind it all.

I thought the blackops side story was kind of useless, I would've definitely been happier with more insight into who Dex's father was or more interplay between him and doctor boyfriend.

He could always be overcome by her sugary sweetness and, you know, just sit down and have tea with her. Maybe?

The more I think about the side story with Dogues (is that how it's spelled?) the more it bothers me. I can't think of any reason it would be necessary, unless they're setting it up so that he finally discovers Dexter's secret, and then lets Dex go because he can relate to wanting to kill guilty monstrous men who escape the reach of the law.

I don't understand why Rudy killed Dexter's real father.

Because he likes Dexter, and feeds emotionally on the way Dexter reacts to things. He knows Dexter is on some level much like himself, but Dexter have not killed innocent people. Proximity to Dexter, observing him makes him feel better about himself... his own guilty conscience... almost as if he is like Dexter himself. After all... they understand each other.

God dammit.

Why do you have to talk about shows starring Julie Benz and Michael C. Hall on a network I don't get?

Damn, this show is good. Making you root for an evil person is just...evil. This is also one of those rare cases where the TV show is a lot better than the books.

Is it sad that I clicked this in hopes that it was a discussion about Dexter's Lab?

The last episode really showed why I love this show. For once I saw Dexter as "The Monster" and I was rooting against him and was rooting for Doakes.

I wasn't rooting against Dexter but I really like Doakes. Those last two episodes of season two were so effing good. I love this show so much I might go back and watch it a couple more times.

I think some people may not have seen episodes 11-12 yet as they've been labeled "pre-air" on P2P sites...

Is it sad that I was rooting for Dexter to the extent where I was a little let down when he didn't chop Doakes up? Can't wait to see how they wrap it all up.

I thought the book ended after the 1st season and the 2nd season was them winging it.

There is a second book, but yeah, the second season is not following it. My guess is that it was either trash or ended in a way that would prevent there from being a third season. In any case, I think that they did a fine job of creating their own story this season.

Book ended very different.

Dexter lets his brother live. And I can't exactly remember, but I think his sister knows about Dexter and lets him continue. Also, one of Rita's kids starts to show signs of being a sociopath like Dexter, so he starts teaching him the Code of Harry.

Ah, well that would go a long way toward explaining why the second book isn't the second season.

Yep, there is a 3rd book as well that came out a few months ago.

And have no fears.. there will be a 3rd season.

Sadly I think the 3rd season might be a pass if it continues in the vein of the second It went all Holywood in the second season, the bad guy incapable of human emotion suddenly starts feeling it because of the affection of a blond bimbo, becomes a good guy blah blah blah...

Having just finished the 2nd book, I have to say the show is WAAAY better than the books. It was surprisingly poorly-written and dull. The only really great thing about it is the character of Dexter, which is very well nailed in the show.

is about as big of a spoiler as you can make, and and me not knowing that is what made Season 2 so spectacular in my opinion. I was 90% certain that the series would be over after Season 2, and it made it a thrill to watch every week as the end got closer and closer.
They did go a little Hollywood with the series in season 2, but I'm okay with that because another season is exactly what I'm looking forward to now.

Even if there is a 3rd season, I enjoyed the finale of the 2nd season so much that I can pretend it ends there in case the 3rd season totally blows .
