Left Hand Wii Method.

Coffee Grinder

This nun-chuk controller for the Wii, does it make a difference whether it is used left or right handed?

Yes. If you're left handed, return your Wii now.

In all seriousness, no it doesn't matter. The Wii sports games have specific functionality for you to specify which hand you are, and the senors adjust accordingly. This really only makes a difference nunchuk wise in boxing, but if you select left handed, you do hold the remote in your left and the nunchuk in your right, and you are indeed a southpaw (left hand dominant).

My friend plays Zelda switch-hitter, and doesn't have a problem at all, though I've heard some people say it's weird that Link's swinging his right hand and not his left. Gameplay wise, though, it's fine.

I can't speak for any other games, but my guess would be that you're not gonna have any real problems.

I sometimes like to switch. For instance there's a minigame where you have to shake up a bottle of soda, and I'm much better at that with my left hand for some reason.

Your penis is a bottle of soda?

Dude, I don't know where you got your Wii, but mine doesn't have that kind of questionable content.

Hmm. Maybe it's just me, but being left handed person (and very dominantly so) who has spent his life using standard controllers, I plan to hold the nunchuck in my left hand just as a right handed person would, especially for more "traditional" game genres. In my mind, the left hand will always control movement and the right will always control cameras, views, and/or actions. Even though I'm certain that I could have better precision with my left hand, my mind is set on that schema.

I suppose that for remote only games, though, I will probably use my left hand.

This reminds of something I've been meaning to ask.

I'm a lefty and while I've seen someone play Guitar Hero from a distance, I'm curious if the design of the guitar will play against me if I were to purchase it? The buttons looked fine but I didn't get a look at the strumming aspect. Would I have to strum upwards every time, and what about the whammy bar?

Yes I realize this isn't Wii-related but I thought it would be better than starting a thread for perhaps one person's response.

The strum bar works both up and down, in fact you need it to later in the game. The whammy bar is just going to suck. It won't be as convenient as keeping it nestled in you palm or just below your fingers.

Personally, I play GH "right handed" as well. I tried the left hand switch once, but I prefer to have my more agile hand on the fret buttons than on the strum bar.

I'm one of the "conformist" lefties. I play guitar right-handed, which has worked out much better. It's rare that someone has a left-handed guitar laying around that you can noodle on, plus finding deals on used right-handed guitars is a lot more common.

I also mouse right-handed so I suspect I'll -- Wii right-handed as well.

I used to mouse left when I was a kid, until my parents got so irritated with me realigning the desk with every use that I had to learn right. Having to relearn killing all those nazis in Wolf3D was a pain.

I totally agree with regards to guitars. After playing for a couple of years, I had my heart set on an Epiphone SG Gothic Series (with the nice black satin finish) only to find out they don't make them in left. For shame!

wait, what?

Link is right handed now?? But, but, but... he's always been my hero for being let handed.

Pardon me. I think I need to go have a cry now.

Hendrix played a rightie guitar strung upside down, with the vibrato bar on top. Stevie Ray played right, but had his bar installed on the top of the instrument; he liked the effects Hendrix got from that configuration. If they can do it, surely you can!

I think that regardless of what I've become used to in a right handed world, I'll still have the wiimote in my left hand, as that will be more comfortable and precise. I'll just have to get used to having the nunchuck in my right hand.

It's unfortunate that I'll be swinging a sword with my left hand, natural for me, and the Link I'm used to won't be doing the same.

But now I'm torn. Zelda for Wii, which I don't have yet, but will have different controls, or Zelda for GC, which I do have, and will have left handed Link, but no fun new gadgety controls.

If only all my dilemmas were so trivial.

Moo.

This is a part of a post I made in the Zelda thread, but I thought I'd put it here too since it is relevant to the discussion in this thread.

Quote:

As for the controls, it is taking me a bit longer than I expected to get used to the concept of using motions to cause some actions and button presses to cause others. Still, it definitely feels like once I get the hang of it, it will be every bit as functional (if not more!) than playing with a standard controller. I actually very much like the actions that are mapped to nunchuck motion; it actually makes the 360 spin attack useful, and the one other ability I have learned that uses nunchuck motion is also very fun to use, and feels intuitive to use.

Actually, the only problem I really have with the control scheme is using the D pad to select items. Perhaps it is because I am playing the way a right handed person would, with the nunchuck in my left hand and the remote in my right. My right hand just doesn't have the dexterity to manage consistantly hitting the direction on the D pad that I want to, and as a result, half of the time I find myself reaching over with my left thumb to hit the D pad while keeping my right thumb on the A button. Has anyone else had difficulty with this?
