SmartHome Auctions Feedback?

I need to get a Component video switch, and was pointed to one SmartHome for one by a GWJer. The things are rather pricey. I see that they have an auction service on SmartHome that could conceivably save me some cash. I can't tell if it is through them or if it is like some sort of EBAY like thing.

Anyone use it, and if so any issues? Thanks.

Oh, and if anyone has links for one cheaper than $200, that would be great too!

Try this:

That one is out of stock, but scroll down to the similar selections and there are 3 much less than 200. One was $58 or so.

I should have a nice ViewSonic one around that I no longer use. I'd be happy to contribute it to the Swampy A/V fund. When I get home, I'll see if I can find all the parts.

One of the reviews for that product pans it and suggests that you go with the Pelican System Selector instead. I have a Pelican product (not the latest, I think - I got the first one they released) and it does exactly what I needed. I BELIEVE it has 5 or 6 sets of Component inputs on the back, and it even has one in the front in case you want to hook something up quickly that isn't a regular part of your setup - which I love.

I have my 360 and old Xbox hooked up with component cables and optical audio through this switch. It also supports Ethernet, but my 360 is running wirelessly.

They generally carry the latest version of this product in the video games section of Best Buy, and the newer version features an LED readout and remote control as an improvement over the one I have. Take a gander and see what you think.

Thanks for the info, fellas.

Pops, let me know on yours. If you have all the parts and such, PM me the details.

Running out of inputs on your TV is nature's way of telling you that you own too much stuff. Natural selection dictates that you allow the weakest component to be separated from the system and die a lingering death in the attic or basement.

Don't screw with Mother Nature, swampy. These switches, they are unnatural.

Coincidence, I am also looking for a component switch and was turned off by the $200-$500 price tag of some of those out there. Haven't been to Best Buy yet though.

I bought this one, and I've been very happy with it. Handles component switching as well as digital audio signals. I was worried about bandwidth initially, but from the specs and my experience it handles 1080i just fine ... not sure if 1080p would be an issue.

And, egads, I'm considering buying another one now that all of my inputs are full and I just added the wii to my stable of electronics.

HD Cable, DVD, 360 and a baby Wii on the way. You decide, I can't even turn stray cats away! ** weeps**

Fed, got a link for the one you have? I found this from best buy but it doesn't say whether Optical in/out is included or not, and that's a must-have on my system (with its lousy 1 real input and one pretend 'music only' input.)

Also, out of curiosity, does it have an IR remote?

Mine would appear to have been discontinued. The link that you provided seems to be the same system review here, and in the review they say that there are NO optical audio ports.

Here is a writeup on what would appear to be the successor to my unit, which does appear to have optical inputs.

I don't know about IR remotes - I skimmed this review.
