Grabbed it this afternoon and was able to put about hour in this evening -- so far it's exactly what I expected: old school, no apologies RPG that won't hesitate to end your game for wandering into the wrong cave.
The WiFi is little more than in-game email -- supposedly you get special rewards for sending "mail" to the NPCs with certain keywords, but it's not clear what (if any) bonuses can be claimed by chatting with real folks. Of course, the WiFi portion isn't active until later on in the game and only then when you get a specific item so I can't really say much about it yet.

I think I wandered into the same cave you did. Unfortunately, I was too ignorant to save before going in there. Yeah, the Wifi integration is minimal. I was just suprised to see it on the box.
" Did my love gun hit you?" -Gaald to Certis while playing Sins of the Solar Empire.
I had this on pre-order until I heard the 1up podcast talk about it. One of guys said it was very unforgiving and very frustrating at times. It just sounded like it wouldn't be very fun unless you are into the old school RPGs as mentioned above. It would be cool if they would port some of the more recent RPGs to the DS.

Even though I know it's next to useless, I'd still like to give the WiFi option a try. Shoot me a "friend request" or whatever Nintendo calls them. My friend code is as follows: 356566456331
Am I the only one who thought the remake of FF1 was crap compared to the unforgiving original? I look forward to some old school hard as hell fights. I'm glad I am the type that saves before I go anywhere new. I learned that the hard way in Phantasy Star II, Dragon Warrior, Bard's Tale, Wizardry, etc.

I totally forgot this was coming out. I was looking for it a few weeks ago, and found out it wasn't out until November. And now it's November.
Guess I'll get me my copy.
Moo.
