Amazon is selling $100 Xbox 360?

According to Michael Arrington at TechCrunch.com, Amazon.com is going to be selling the xbox 360 $300 bundle for only $100. The exact details are not known to him other than that.
Normally I do not put stock in rumors I hear on blogs...except that Michael Arrington brokers a large number of deals in Silicon Valley and is always the first to annouce new, big happenings in the tech world (i.e. he beat all press announcements and other rumor mongers about YouTube being bought by Google by 24 hours.)

What would be in this for Amazon? I know their markup on the 360 doesn't leave them enough room to do this without taking a loss.

Could easily happen. Black Friday is coming up quick. Make it a buy $XXX amount and you get the xbox 360 for $100. Could also be for say the first 50 people or something. How is it different than any other black friday deal? I've gotten free DVD Burners, DVDs, Cases, a calculator, pens, etc all free on black friday from staples all on the same day. Total on all that was about $300 (free after rebate but still).
Also its probably the core and they may have a ton of them sitting arround as who buys the core?

Like I said...I usually don't put stock in blog rumors myself. But I have been reading Tech Crunch for over a year now because they know everyone in the tech industry and are uncannily correct when they post rumors.

It's true, kind of. Amazon is taking votes for a few different deals, the core 360 being one of them. If the 360 wins then it looks like next week thursday they will offer it for $100 until supplies run out. I am all over this with any luck I will be getting a 360 a lot sooner than I expected.

core system lacks the hard drive and only has one wired controller. the wired controller is probably not a deal breaker, but you'd definitely want to get a hard drive, which is another $100. still not a bad deal if you are one of the lucky 1000 people.
i was under the impression the deal starts TODAY (11/16) at 2pm EST as opposed to next week.

Is there a way to find out if this Core system is one of the earlier models that had/have heating problems etc. Yep, with the HD, Wirelss Headset and gamepad, plus AV cables were looking at something around $300. So say a $100 saving's (plus tax) from the $399 that comes with all this. (and it's shipping free now, but I wonder if that will hold if it goes for $100. ).
