Pick One Wii Launch Title

As much as I'd like to buy a bunch of the Wii launch titles, my finances coupled with having to make a balanced Christmas list will not allow such a thing. Since I plan on buying the component cables and probably a Virtual Console game or two, I've decided to stick to just one game.

For me that game will be the latest iteration of Zelda. I decided this on the basis of game length (it's long enough that I will likely still be playing it come Christmas) and all the good things I've heard about it so far. The trailers looked great as well.

If you had to pick just one Wii launch title what would it be?

I'm pre-ordering mine through eBgames.com therefore I'm pretty sure my bundle of $699 will include every Wii launch title and possibly a couple GameBoy Color games as well.

Zelda will be the first game I slap into it though....unless that's the one game that doesn't come with my bundle...

Quitto....but I'd really wondering about Red Steel. I think all of those uber-cheesy four-player online multiplayer videos subtly brainwashed me into this thought. Damn you Nintendo!

I'm leary of any console bundles because they usually include games and other junk that no one would normally buy if as seperate items. You could probably get the Wii and a few titles for it and the Gameboy and still have $100+ left over.

But really, without Zelda, the Wii just won't shine as brightly for me. Red Steel and Wii Sports will only give the Wii a pale, dull sheen.

Sadly, I'm actually looking forward to playing Wii Sports more than anything else launch-wise. Previews of the other games leave me with a wait-and-see feeling, and any 3D Zelda = teh meh for me.

Everything can be debated, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's debatable.

I am concerned about the controls (re: Zelda), honestly. But I will definitely give them a chance!

For reference, I really enjoyed Wind Waker (other than the fact that the ocean was too big, and fishing for the triforce pieces was silly).

Slightly on topic, I came across a nice little cost calculator if you're interested in finding out what a Wii, the games you want and the peripherals you like would cost in your state/province.

Doritto, while I'm sure Red Steel is all nice and pretty, no gamer would choose anything other than Zelda.

I'm not. A good number of journalists each spent about ten hours with the game last week and not a single one had anything negative to say about the controls. You can say they are all shills if you want, but at least a few of them were people whose opinions I generally respect and agree with.

I hear you but change is what got us the point in gaming where we are now. I give Nintendo props for going out on a limb with their controller and it's functionality and I hope that Sony finishes last in the next-gen race (highly unlikely but we can all dream)!

Don't get me wrong, I hope it's fantastic. I am just acknowledging that I am going into this experience with a bit of skepticism. Who knows, it could be the best thing since sliced bread. I'm obviously not too hesitant, since I'm signed up to get this gear on launch day!

Oncio?!

Since it sounds like they've solved any potential problems with Wii controls for the system, and most of the journalists that got a preview of the game said they would take the Wii controls over the Gamecube controls any day of the wiik, consider me sold.

Although, I will admit that Red Steel was the first game that made me think that Wii style controls for a game would just be plain awesome. Just give me a fencing/dueling/lightsaber wielding or First Person RPG with responsive, accurate controls and I'll be hooked!
