Gears of War First Impressions (no spoilers)

Since this is a pretty big release (with online coop!) I figured we'd better get a thread stood up. No spoilers please, Epic has been careful not to show too much and I think we should honor that for other players.
I'm hoping I can get the game today and dig in this afternoon. For some reason I got up at 5:30AM this morning so I have an early start at all my work

I just hope there isnt a live update for it immediately. My hard-drive is still caught in MS repair negotiations. (I will not be silenced

All the local adverts say the game will be available on Wednesday. I wasn't getting my hopes up for anyone to have it today, but if anyone finds a copy let us know!
I was told (if true) that there is not a strict release date, so as long as the store receives it, they can put it right on the shelves.

Overall, it sounds like the game is badass but I'm wondering why IGN and Gamespot don't have reviews yet. Very strange!

I got a call last night from the nice automated EB Games lady, and she said that my copy would be available for pickup today (Tuesday) afternoon. I will be heading over there after work.

The yahoo games review says Terry Tate does one of the voices in the game. Wooooo! The only gripe they had with it was the singleplayer length. They said eight hours.

Those are some flawless scores right there, now let's see if that is all hype generated score or if the game is really that good. I will wait for the reviews in this space.

What about if this game was released for PC? Would it get the same marks? Because as I see it there is allot more competition for good action games on the PC then there is for the XboX360.
In short, do you think the grades get higher because there is not much competition for this game on the XboX 360?

Here's a quick snipet from the Gamespot review:
"The game also runs at a very steady frame rate during gameplay. The cutscenes, however, are rendered in real time, and when the action really gets heated in some of the sequences, the visuals chop up. The music in Gears of War is appropriately cinematic and really helps carry the action-movie style that the game is shooting for. The dialogue also gives off an action-movie vibe, mainly because most of it is totally meatheaded. The COG soldiers aren't scientists--they're dumb, strong soldier boys that are at home when they're behind the trigger. As a result, almost all of the dialogue is appropriately gruff and filled with the sort of "let's rock!" enthusiasm that you'd expect from a team of hardcore shooters. The weapons are also enhanced by great sound effects. The squish of flesh being ripped apart by the chainsaw, in particular, is outstanding.
Gears of War is a game that capitalizes on all of the promises made by the next generation of gaming. It looks more than a few steps beyond what consoles have been doing to this point, and the gameplay is supremely fulfilling from start to finish in all of its various modes. I live in Acton (MA) and after voting this morning stopped by fye (the only place in town other than K-Mart that sells games). The manager said it will either arrive this afternoon or tomorrow. He said if it arrives today it will go on sale immediately. He suggested I call after lunch.
That said I'm not hopeful that I'll get it today - which sucks since I'm already taking the day off to meet Verizon for my FIOS TV install and the plumber to unplug the drain my wife clogged up (don't ask). If by some chance I get it this afternoon then the rest of my day is set (just have to make sure I don't space out and forget to pickup the kids!)

Seems like tomorrow is the day most everywhere. When we went down to pay for GH2 last night the guys at our local Gamestop said that up until a few days ago they had been planning a midnight release for last night, but that now they had been told to not expect the game to be in stock until Wednesday.
