Anyone interested in a Game Club?
When I was stumping for Tactical Gamer, I came up with an idea to breathe life into otherwise dead titles. The idea was called Tactical Gamer Game Club, and the idea went something like this:
Most of us are avid gamers, which means we have a stack of games that we love, but just don't get to that often.Maybe the games are old, maybe the servers are dark, maybe it's just easier to reach for the BF2 box next to the computer instead of hunting down your Ghost Recon discs.
We all have those reasons.
Which is where the Game Club comes in.
Each Sunday night, from 9-11PM EDT, the Club will pick a title we host, and breathe some life into the game.
The games the Club will play will rotate each week, starting with the following rotation:
Week 1: Operation Flashpoint
Week 2: America's Army
Week 3: Ghost Recon No Easy Day
Week 4: Day of Defeat: Source
Obviously, Gamers With Jobs does not host titles as such, but with Teamspeak, Ventrilo, Xfire, Skype, and all the other methods of communication available, it should not be difficult to coordinate joining a public server.
What did the Club in at TG was that it tended to bring out the tactical grognards that thought the games should be played one way: theirs. The more relaxed atmosphere here should help us get around that.
In addition, the rotation was specific to whatever TG was hosting at the moment, which was restrictive, but here, it could include just about anything: World of Warcraft, GRAW, Company of Heros, Counterstrike Source....whatever we have.
Since I'm a PC gamer, I'd like to focus on PC games, but I'm flexible if someone wants to put up Console titles for consideration.
Anyone interested in something like this?

I think maybe having an evening dedicated to a certain game from the past each week is a pretty good idea, but we already have the infrastructure in place to do that with the game calendar here at GWJ.
You can't do this!
Of course I can, I'm Will Wright, bitch! - The Simpsons Game

I think it's an awesome idea. As long as each week which games we were playing and what patches we need were posted.
Also, I think a good idea would be to let people suggest games and put them on a list that the main event organizer could pick from. That way, we wouldn't have the whole "what does everyone want to play?" thread every week that would stretch out for 2 weeks, but people could still suggest new games to play.
I'm guessing this is internet multiplayer games only? LAN stuff would work with hamachi right?

"Come on now, there's no need to make that kind of noise. It sounds awful and you'll upset other people." - Ionae from Spirit Engine 2
Lan would work with hamachi.
Worms Armageddon is the first game we play.
So say we all.

I'm up for participating whenever the game of the week is something I own. If it's a regular night in the schedule I don't see any reason this shouldn't work.

Second on the game I own waiting period.
Roo: "Just to cheer you up if any of the above made you sad: Boobies."
Koning_Floris, on my online 'skills': "Stinking is a skill too!"
Ok, so what does everyone own that they want considered, and what day? Friday? Sunday?

I'm totally into this, and frankly, we kinda do it already, and I wish we did more. We were on a really good run of Sunday night HL2DM, and I'm looking forward to Zombie Skate now that I own a 360. The only issue with the rotating schedule is that you're going to lose players every week to game ownership.
But in general, I'm all about this. Worms it is for me. And my suggestion is "not sunday" as we've been doing good HL2DM games.

Jesus, Rabbit. That avatar creeps me out. Like something the kid in the Twilight Zone movie would make jump out of his TV.
All this science I don't understand. It's just my job five days a week.
No discussion needed, its Worms Armageddon. Lets shoot for Friday.

Edwin, Lobo and I play this farily regularly. Shoot me a message on Xfire sometime.
Anyhow, I would love to get in on this, if I can. I love the old R6 games. Any of the first three would be great, although I would prefer Rogue Spear or Raven Shield - R6 original runs a little funny somtimes.
I never see your xfire showing that you are playing. Don't just hide, share the time so we can play.

First rule of Game Club... Don't talk about game club...
whats wrong with you people?
WOW: Bounce
I just signed up for Gametap which has all of those titles so I'd definately be interested in trying out multiplayer. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it this Friday. If you guys see me playing through XFire, just send me a message though.

This sounds pretty cool. I would love to get a little more life out of some of my older strategy games, especially turn based strategy ones like Age of Wonders. Currently I am playing a lot of Sword of the Stars too and wouldn't mind doing some of that.
It's been so long. Are the ninja rope skills still there? Is the cd?

Will the demo work? I do not own Worms Armageddon. Pretty cheap at GBP 5.99.

I signed up for Gametap as well so I'm in for Worms or anything on there. Assuming my fingertips aren't completely worn off on Friday from Guitar Hero 2.

Hehe - took the words out of my mouth.

Third on the game I own waiting period - with limited time...but interested...

Unless you're running out of mana overhealing is the most worthless stat in the game. Underhealing is effectively known as "wiping".

I'd play if I could find my damn CD.

This sounds cool, though I personally don't have a lot of nights free anymore. Mondays, some Wednesdays, most weekends.

The whole idea is just to get a bunch of people together. In some ways it made more sense at Tactical Gamer, since they had a less active calendar, and a bunch of unused servers.
I can't help but notice that, although we have a bunch of really good methods of grouping, it seems like players get together more in the forums than ingame. Maybe that is the wrong impression?
Anyway, nothing is set in stone at this point. If Monday works for you, then that could be a good time to do it. Nothing else on the calendar.....
I'd really like to come up with a group of three or four titles so that someone can say "Hey, the guys are playing Worms Armageddon tonight!"

I would be willing to participate with DoD:Source. I have never played it online, since it has became "sourced."
