I do kind of get the feeling that this is just a temporary situation. Still, there's no proof and there doesn't seem to be any feedback at all coming from EA with regard to the reason or if there will be any alternatives available in the near future. Very frustrating.

They're making their own stats site. Someone managed to find it on an EA development staging server, and it was available for a few hours before they password-protected it and shut off public access.
It looked pretty good, and I'm sure it'll be back soon.

Buck says that the official site's ad content comes from IGA.
I'm beginning to wonder if this marks a trend for EA in terms of shutting out community projects that may conflict with EA's own advertising supplemented services. If so, how long can EA sustain this practice before losing community support for their games entirely?

They'll lose players when a worthy competitor shows up.

There wouldn't hardly be a need for these sites anyway if the game's own BFHQ function actually worked the way it was supposed to.

Hey, Epic! Want to rule the FPS scene again? Here's your chance!

It wouldn't take much. Just get a team of artists and developers, license a decent engine, and get it done in under a year.

It's called Quake Wars.
I hope.

Speaking of, is QW going to have persistence? At this point, wouldn't any squad based FPS that doesn't have rank persistence be taking a step backwards?
Xbox Live: Chumtastic
I'd rather they didn't; I'm not convinced it is a step forward.

We should probably move the discussion over to the Quake Wars thread.

So, anyone know where to find a point value for each award/pin/etc.?
NOTE: This is not a doodle bug.

The nice thing about rank persistence is that no matter how bad you do in a game, you are still generating points towards a goal. I think that's one of the things that has had me coming back to BF2 when I could easily be playing CS instead. Unlocks have made me their bitch
You can't do this!

Uh, you're joking, right? I mean, Epic has their own engine that they've been selling for years. It's called Unreal...
I mean that it wouldn't take much for someone to rule the scene. But thanks for completing the condescension anyway.

This is pretty sad. EA is getting more and more in the consumers hair with all there stupid actions. With BF2 I love the fact that there are multiple stats sites, because one does appeal to me while the other looks like poop for me. I wonder the same as SocialChameleon, how much more bullsh*t can EA pull before they will fall?
I sure hope Quake Wars will kill the BF series, not that I want BF dead, I love the games, but I want them to improve more then 2142 did. For now, I'll keep Dark Messiah my replacement of 2142. I'm having a great time with it, and with it's unlock system.
I don't watch, I interact!
I don't agree that it would be that easy. The Unreal 3 engine is a popular license, and it's not completely out there to think that Epic has the money hats necessary to develop a Battlefield-scale multiplayer FPS. Not every FPS-focused developer can make this claim. On the other hand, this may not be case for Epic if Gears of War doesn't do well.

Not impressed. It seems to be the same thing you get in-game only worse.

BF2 Stats
Unfortunately my machine won't let me see stats on all the weapons. Only the initial cluster of PAN weapons. What am I missing to scroll down?
I have the same problem, though you can view the Unlocks and Explosives/Drones weapons by clicking on their areas above the listing. No idea why I can't see the rest of the faction specific though... And I want sorting!

too much shiny, not enough useful
Warrior Asherr
Hunter Ghorin
I don't even think it's all that shiny. It doesn't appear that they're sharing the stats either as 2142-stats remains unchanged.
Xbox Live: Chumtastic
Meh. It's all spread out on multiple pages, which means slow access as you go from section to section. I still like BF2s.com's dense layout better.

Agreed. EA's appears a bit fluffy. Hopefully they will open up a pipe for other stat sites to use.
