Christmas movies
The 23rd of December, we at the youth house (I translate literally, because I don't think there's a decent translation) organize a movie night. We intend to play Christmas movies, serve hot coco and marshmallows, bring in fake snow, install comfy chairs, and so on.
But we're looking for some ideas for x-mas movies. What we're looking for: not the cliché kind you see every year on tv, but connected to christmas (theme, setting, doesn't really matter) anyway. No kiddie movie, unless they're really special for some reason.
Artsy fartsy suggestions are welcome too, commercial ones too. We haven't really decided which way to go there.
So, I call upon the vast knowledge that is GWJ yet again! Shoot thy suggestions from thy Christmas erm hat or something or other.

If there's not at least one version of the Christmas Carol, I'll personally come north to have a word with you
Personally, I'm partial to the old 'Scrooge'-adaption.
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.

A Christmas Story don't know if it plays on your side of the pond as often as it does here (TNT runs a it 24 hours on Xmas eve)
Cyrana Mage 80 ~ Artesia Druid 72
Cyranna Shaman 62 ~ Acereri - DK 61 ~ Artasian - Priest 59 ~ Lenna - Rogue 60
RR you win this thread! This is the best Christmas movie ever made.

I like It's A Wonderful Life. Sometimes it can pull you out of it. I like the comment on the Batman cartoon about it:
Dick: Bruce, did you ever watch It's A Wonderful Life?
Bruce: I never get passed the title.
MaxShrek .. The reason you keep falling, is there is no bottom.

I second/third/fourth this notion.

Really, Dejanzie, if you haven't seen this one, you don't know what the True Meaning of Christmas is. This is the only Christmas movie you need.

::shudders:: Maybe I'm un-American or something, but I really hate that movie. I was always partial to the old 60s stop-motion flicks, but they're a little kid-oriented for you.

Chiggie made me laugh.
I watched The Nightmare Before Christmas last week with the young'n. Always fun.
Scrooged is a good time too. One of Bill Murray's best roles.
All this science I don't understand. It's just my job five days a week.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the only possible trump to Richy's suggestion.
I love that movie.

A good holiday movie is Home for the Holidays. Technically it's a Thanksgiving movie but it's still pretty funny and definitely not your typical holiday movie. It is geared more towards adults though, kids would be pretty bored watching it.

Home Alone
Bad Santa
Lethal Weapon (Christmas time here too!)
I second Scrooged too.

Another vote for all of the old stop-motion and animated cartoons from the 60s and 70s.
And Christmas Vacation.
And Planes Trains and Automobiles.

It doesn't matter what Chiggie says, flaming heads, nails in the crotch, paint cans to the face and screaming electrified skeletons will always be hilarious. Always. Didn't Midnight Run take place around Christmas? If so, I nominate that as well.

Ahh, good, I'm not the only one.
Personally, for me, the holidays just aren't the same if I don't get a chance to see The Year Without a Santa Claus. That's always been my favorite Christmas cartoon-thingy.
Scrooged is a must, as well.

Not that Christmas is celebrated here but Edward Scissorhands perhaps?
Seconded, after watching it yesterday yet again. It somehow avoids being a totally saccharine movie and is full of British humor.
I personally have a tradition of watching Jesus Christ Superstar (the movie) every Christmas and am looking forward to it this year again.
It's not Wandering Toast. Except in TF2, where it usually is.
Forgive my dry, British humor.

You've got to watch "The Spirit of Christmas" South Park short. Although not a movie, it's a Christmas classic.
