The first PS3 game I actually want

Well, I guess I want Resistance too, but this is the first game I've seen that made me actually wish I was getting a PS3 soon:

Joystiq hands on: Cash Money Chaos

I liked playing the old Smash TV on my 360. This looks like it would be something I would play to death if I got a PS3 at launch.

The one that convinced me I might want one is White Knight.

I hadn't seen that trailer. Very nice... estimated release date on that one?

After a price drop, I hope, because in addition to FF13 and MGS4, that is a game I would buy the system for.

I hear that! At current prices, the PS3 is just so freaking expensive. Further, since I don't even currently have an HDTV to display it on, I don't suppose it'd really be a worthwhile purchase.

Just to brag a bit I got to play a PS3 today! I got to play Resistance, Flow, Criminal Crackdown, and Motorstorm. Motorstorm was frankly amazing graphically, Criminal Crackdown seemed like it could be a lot of fun multi-player, and Resistance was a very solid and good looking shooter. The PS3 was hooked up to a 70" SXRD and looked incredible.

The things I saw in the demo of it that I haven't heard about before that were cool were the photo viewer has a slideshow mode that is better than any I have ever seen. The pictures get output like they are polaroids on various backgrounds and you can zoom and move around them in three dimensions. The browser was also very cool allowing you to see up to six pages on the screen at once and variably zoom in on them or move around similar to the picture slideshow. So yeah I pretty much want one more than ever now, although truthfully I think I want a 70" SXRD even more.

Maybe I'm cynical, but White Knight did not look like gameplay, even the bits that kinda looked like gameplay. I'll believe it's in-engine, which is impressive, but not that the game will play that way. Just something about the animations and the camera said "cinematic" to me.

But isn't that the whole point, to blur the line between cinematics and gameplay?

And that's what's cool. The CD-ROM FMV days have given the idea of an "interactive movie" a bad name, but I think there's something to be said for a piece of entertainment that's maybe less gameplay than a typical game, and more interactive than a movie. Something in-between. We've become so conditioned to what games are "supposed" to be that maybe we don't give such an idea enough of a fair shake.

I look forward to more experiments as to what a game can be, including one that blurs the line between movie and game. Not that White Knight is necessarily it.

If it turns out to be gameplay that just looks very cinematic, then that's great, and you're right. I'm saying I don't think it WILL turn out to be gameplay.

That White Knight trailer did look really interesting, though I agree with Morro that I wonder how much of it, if any, is "in game", and how much is "gameplay target" mock-up. If the game is as far along as the video made it appear, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about it at all.

Especially cool would be the option to choose English voices or Japenese voices with English subtitles on the fly. I really liked the English voice actors of FFX, but I was digging on the Japanese voices in this trailer.

I'm a real sucker for RPGs. White Knight looked amazing. I gotta get me a 'next gen' system.

Check out the Motorstorm Intro Movie. Doesn't it make you wanna play the game, even for a little bit? I got the shivers when I saw that immense valley crammed with people. I just want to see that on my widescreen HDTV.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Fixed that for you.

If you play 10 hours straight of any Final Fantasy, then play Onimusha and kind of squint a little, it's just like playing White Knight'll be.

I've played the demo for Cash Money Chaos and it's the worst game i've played on my PS3. The difficulty just seems to ramp up way too quick, and the gameplay seems to be very similar to the much better blast factor.

It sucks, man. It just sucks. Like Stric, I played the demo and there's nothing to it. Like a sh*tty, but slightly better looking Smash TV.
