My latest project: Beer for Ben
Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 - 1:53pm
Our local brewhouse, The Flying Saucer, has 175 different beers available (with mixes and flights it goes up to 200).
I am working on drinking one of each beer they have available, and my goal is to post a picture of myself with every beer they have on my new website:
I'm also keeping track of what I thought about the beers and am hoping to add some more statistics like specific gravity and alcohol content for each brew.

Good luck with that!
Do you get a prize at the end? The Lizard Lounge in Oshkosh, WI would give you a t-shirt after you scratched off 40 different imports.

You get a plate on the wall with your name on it, and a $100 bar tab when you finish. You get a T-shirt for signing up.

Cool project! I wish I'd thought of it. Maybe I'll start up a sister project at the local bar (100+ beers on hand)!
I noticed you already tried the Flying Dog Doggie Style Pale Ale. I tried that one a few weeks ago and really liked it. But what did you think of it? I can't seem to find your comments on it on the site.

A terrible, terrible task, Bennard. One that I would gladly take up for you.
Once you work your way through that 175, you should head up here to DC for the Brickskeller. World's largest beer list. Hit the ones that you miss from the Flying Saucer.
And Fat Tire is delicious. Had it for the first time out in Broomfield. Good choice for number #17.

Revolution? Vacation? Somebody fart?
And more ideas! =)
Kat, next time you're down visiting your Dad, you should come into the city, and we'll hit the 'keller.
Ben, you should definitely use a 100 or 10-scale for your beers. You've got alot of differentiation to do in that 175. Or how about a short list of the best? (Of course there's no bad beer.)
EDIT: Fitting, that I am an Executive for Beer. =)

But, but, you start at #15?! I think you need to go back and start over at #1

I just started keeping a record on the site as of yesterday. I do plan to go back and re-drink the other 14. I don't have pictures of those either, so I need to get pics of those too. I haven't figured out my strategy for the re-consumption yet.

A hundred bucks for 175 beers, sounds like a good deal to me.

I don't envy you having to drink this one:
Petes Strawberry Blonde
Description: This beer is light in color with a strong strawberry aroma and flavor. It is a seasonal beer in most regions and is not for the Beer Knurd.

It's actually quite tasty. Don't knock it.

But it's Beer. And strawberries. That's just wrong.
But ok, I'll try it. Once.

I feel so spoiled, the Gig Harbor Albertson's has around 100 different types of beers although I have to buy them a sixer at a time. It truly is a micro brew heaven here in the Pac NW.
Also Albertson's will order anything you want, just ask one of the employees if they can get a case of Arrogant Bastard and they'll get it for you.

Unfortunately, that's the rules. I can only count 3 beers a night to the overall total. I figure this will take me about a year to finish.

Hm, it's a shame the local-brewed Dogfish Head isn't available at your tavern. It's good stuff.
Yet even then we ran like the wind,
whilst our laughter echoed under cerulean skies...
I loves me some Fat Tire. That is the beer I usually drink at the local pub in Monterey.

Just wanted to provide a quick update.
I've been going about once a week since the project started and am on beer #40, with 160 to go. I usually go drink on Mondays and try to update the site on Monday nights.
Don't forget that you can buy me a beer using the link on the top-right hand corner of the page. You get to choose which beer I drink next, and I'll hold up a sign with your name on it for the picture.
Also, I just got my shirts in from spreadshirt.com. If you want to pick up some authentic Beer For Ben swag, you can get it at the link below. A portion of the proceeds goes towards getting me drunk.

If you can get it there, the Anderson Valley Brewing Company makes GREAT beer. I particularly like their "Boont Amber Ale" and "Oatmeal Stout". Just superb stuff. One of the things I miss from moving East, can't get it out here that I've found.
This man is serious. He wore his Beer for Ben hoodie to the Slap and Tickle last night (I have pictures). That's dedication.
The opposite of Love is not Hate, it is Fear.
Get around to drinking the Boddington's. Even out of the can, it's one of my absolute favorite pub ales.
