PC classics you'd like to see on the 360

I'm full-on back into Doom after a 12 year hiatus. The perfect port of a PC game got me thinking: What other PC games would be great on Live? The first thing that came to mind for me is the build engine games:

#1: Duke3D
#2: Blood
#3: Shadow Warrior

and then some of the sidescrollers I adored as a kid

Commander Keen IV
Secret Agent
BlackThorn
Halloween Harry

Anyone else have some titles they'd love to jump back into with a 360 controller?

Duke3D for sure..
I'd also like to see the original system shock.

Shadow warrior... reallly?

Mechwarrior 2 trilogy with xbox360 graphics!

Definitely Stellar 7 and the sequal whose name escapes me at the moment. Great arcadey games that would work well with a controller.

I'd like to see something like a simplified Subspace come to the Live arena. You'd need less crazy weapons options due to less buttons, but I think it could still work and be great fun. Particularly with a solid mod community.

And lastly, some sort of Gunbound/Scorched Earth clone would probably become tremendously popular. Particularly with the point model that Gunbound has for upgrading your units.

Shadow Warrior was great fun.

It's probably less fun if you're not in high school anymore and don't find quips like "You want to wash wang, or you want to watch Wang wash wang?" all that funny. Although the twelve year old in me (which I think will never die) will always find such things to be totally hilarious.

Hey, I was thinking subspace too! Get out of my head. The only problem is that subspace is basically a fun chat room at this point and I don't know how well voice would work for that. Scorched earth would be pretty sweet too.

Assuming Mac also counts as a sort of PC: Barrack(s?). Bestest Styx version EVAR.

Back to PC:
- Pyrotechnica. (slightly updated :))
- Descent 1/2.
- Magic carpet.
- Battlezone!!!!!

Duke3d with online deathmatch and coop and I could die happy.

How about Rise of the Triad, that game was awesome and had some of the most insane weapons I can ever recall being in an FPS.

Some of those old epic mega games shooters would be cool, like Raptor or Solar Winds, had lots of fun with those back in the day.

Mechwarrior 2 would be awesome, but I don't think it'd translate well to the gamepad, the controls were pretty complex, but something like Terra Nova might work well on a pad.

Ludicrous gibs!

My favorite of the Doom clones. Drunk missiles!

I also vote for Bioforge.

Descent would definitely be awsome. There was tons of keystrokes for that game too though if I remember correctly.

Regarding shadow-warrior: I've gotta admit I still find that game extremely fun. I'm a big fan of the shurikens and the Katana. Slicing people up was so good.

Definitely Rise of the Triad.

Also, Syndicate and Syndicate Wars with 4 player co-op would be the shizzle.

X-Wing, TIE fighter, and the Wing Commander games (all of them). I'd spend $400 on a console that could play those games.

Good call on Xwing! I could Xwing alliance multiplayer being amazing over Live.

Good ol' original Quake single player. Add in co-op if you must. Still my favorite pure shooter. No story, simple puzzles. Great level design, perfect monsters, and the best weapons.

Stylez answered for me, aparrently.

Yes to:

Duke3d
Keen 4
Descent 3

Also add:

Die by the Sword
Rune
Daggerfall

I'll take one XCOM with multiplayer versus please

Aww, heck while I'm at it, gimme a few blizzard titles too.

M.U.L.E.

Descent Freespace instead of the original. The expanded story and sheer amount of "Holy crap did that just happen?" moments would go over well for people that never played it.

Oh, and what about Nox? That's an underappreciated game if I've ever heard of one.

I think Magic Carpet would make a great candidate for a remake. With the hardware power behind it, the terrain deformation, brutal magic and flying physics could be totally off the wall.

I wonder if the property is with MS now that they own Molyneux's ass.

Rune

Yeah, that would be sweet! I might finally get to play it through without game-breaking bugs and crashes!

#1: Duke3D
#2: Blood
#3: Shadow Warrior

You, sir, have excellent taste. That would be $30 well spent.

Xcom and Quake would rock.

The Ultimas, especially Ultima Underworld. I'd give anything for a bug-free Ultima 9.

System Shock 1 & 2. Surround Sound!

How 'bout Civ 2, with multiplayer?

Fallout 1 & 2.

C&C: Red Alert, right before C&C3 comes out.

I love that game. It sorta' makes me teary eyed just thinking about it.

Another vote: Speedball 2. I know, Deathrow is similar, and I've grown to really like it, but I'd love to see the faster-paced Speedball on there...original graphics and all!

How about Archon?

Dear Microsoft,

Please read this thread! I'll be your best friend!

High Resolution 720P version of Deus Ex?

Hmm.. Duke 3D, Quake 1 and Quake III, Descent.

Good Call GG. Deus Ex is probably going to be the next classic I play through once I beat Jagged Alliance 2. I'm hoping the graphics aren't too dated as to hamper my enjoyment of the game.

System Shock 2 with online multiplayer would be amazing as well.

Put me down for Quake as well. I'm not entirely sure how I missed that one.

The graphics aren't too bad, but the story is awful. Gameplay varies between inspired and dated.

Are you sure you are not talkinga bout Deus Ex 2 (Invisable War)? I thought the story in the ooriginal Deus Ex was great and the gameplay was fantastic. I would love to play this game again on a console. Deus Ex is one of the very few games I played through to the end, and then played again.

The sequel that came out on PC and the Xbox was just horrible. I tried and tried to play it, as I really wanted to get immersed in that universe again. But it was just too painful.

I said the same thing to him and then realized that when I played it I was in middle school (I think). Play through it again and you might be a little surprised. Like watching the original TMNT again. You can't even tell what's going on half of the time.

I think he was talking about Jagged Alliance 2.
