I agree with Education being on the list. Teaching sure was stressful.

I agree with IT being #1. I'll save my reasons why for the time when I no longer work in IT.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I'd put Soldier at the top of the list.

I agree with that. Now all I need to do is try out IT work and my stressful life will be complete.

I'd put $MY_JOB at the top of the list.
The stress is offset by getting to go home and have sex with Angelina Jolie. That movie told me so.

Darn right. Let the creators of that list spend one week on patrol in Iraq then tell us IT is number one.

Yeah, but then you have the added stress of Billy Bob Thornton trying to kill you.

Stress is all in our heads.
Yes, but with an IT job, the users force their stress into OUR heads.

Oh, you two are good. Very, very good. I had something whitty and sarcastic all prep'd but you beat me to it. Well done.
Of course IT is on the list. The nature of business these days is all about information. Tac on outsourcing, compliance and regulation and finish it off with a nice heaping serving of security concerns and you have an ulcer ready to go.

This makes me feel really good about quitting my job as a programmer and going to medical school.
Geez, I only improved my lot by 1 place.
My dream job is working in either a coffee house that roasts its own beans or a bicyle shop. Hell,
how about a combo bicycle shop/coffee house.
Stress usually comes about from an imbalance in reponsibility = authority = recognition/reward. IMHO.
The funny thing about that list is this:
Who among us doesnt' work in one of those professions?
Doesn't that list account for the majority of the workforce?

Well, it'd be hard to find too many people outside this list, because it's so vague. Both my last job, and my current job [ER clerk, medical research/data entry respectively] could be classified under #2, as well as #10. Both jobs are clerical in nature, and both are focussed on the medical field. They're both stressful in their own right, but I doubt I'd put either in the top 10 (especially not working as an ER clerk... I can't tell you how many nights found me sitting at my desk, happilly reading a good book... but then again, the occasional ranting patient got to me most of the time).
And a lot of this has to do with where you work. I was an ER clerk in a pretty remote naval hospital, down in South Carolina, and we typically treated about 30 patients in a 24 hour span (I remember one day that only had 9 patients in that whole 24hrs). But if I were to work in a place like John Stroger (public hospital in Chicago... the hospital I do medical research on), I doubt I'd be reading much with having to register the common 300-400 patients per 24hrs, and I'm sure I'd be catch flak from the patients who have been waiting between 8-10hrs to be seen.

I agree that this seems like an incredibly narrow one. Soldier, ATC, how about DEA field agent? CIA Operative? Politician during re-election. Production on a live TV show. Heck I've fit into several of these categories, but I can't imagine anything more stressful than a job which requires you to carry a gun all day.
