Old Timer's WoW Gathering Post
You know folks, it just occurred to me as Leaping decided to take a break, that I'm the oldest active guild member (time on server, not just age...eh Storm?)
So that got me thinking as I've seen now about every active member climb from 1 to higher levels...what are the old timerz up to.
So, for all you goodjers that were around near the start, and most of you moved on to raiding guilds or moved on from the game...this is your time.
What are you up to, still active, how outfitted, what ya running, server change, who you with?
Storm, Peec, Duc, Leap, Tycho, Vorcha, McFinn, and many more...I hit the forums and we have post going back to Nov 04 - coming up on two years in the game...WoW!

Unless you're running out of mana overhealing is the most worthless stat in the game. Underhealing is effectively known as "wiping".
so sayeth the Bear...

I was there at launch, recently joined Negative( a few other old GWJers there), been on a few raids, and now, I've been spending my time...
playing freaking Dwarf Fortress. The game is evil, man. Sid Meier OMTS Evil.

In Negative as well and raiding, though no new equipment yet. I'm also working my way through Titan Quest and just picked up Legos Star Wars 2 for my Xbox last night.

I actually started WoW in beta, jumped onto Blackhand at launch, then in the week-and-a-half after launch day I was waiting for my internet connection to be established at my new home (I moved the day after launch day
). By the time I was able to pop back into the game, Blackhand was having its infamous connection woes and the goodjer guild was into the 20's in level for the active members.
I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up (as I had night classes starting soon after that in addition to my day job), so I switched over to a roleplaying server with a couple other guys instead.
Fortunately, it all worked out for the best, as I ended up missing out on the first round of GWJ guild drama about a year ago, had lots of fun on Feathermoon, took a break for a while, and then when I returned to WoW the timing was great with a batch of new guys joining in and the GWJ guild running better than ever (from what I hear).
So I'm sort of an old-timer.
I"m an old-timer. Kinda. My first instances with Cope were run with Leap, Curb, McFinn, and Tycho. Good times. I took a very long break and just rejoined a few months ago. I've been wondering what happened to Curb and McFinn. I've seen Leap and Tycho on, although I haven't seen either around lately.
McFiinn is is in Negative now.

Bando started on on Blackhand GWJ Horde. He reached 40 before I made the transition to GWJ Alliance. The Killer Bs have been running for a while, but took a several month break to regroup and lower W/GF agro.

Yeah, those W/GF aggro cooldown timers are not only cumulative, but almost exponentially so.
Unfortunately Vorcha's on an indefinate vacation, though I still can't get the WoW monkey off my back. I had some great experiences grouping with GWJ Alliance a few months ago but between caring for an infant and working for a company that's starting to self-destruct, I just don't have time for an MMO.
Right now, I'm still playing Civ4 and I'm eagerly looking forward to playing Defcon in a few weeks.
Don't be surprised if I thaw out Vorcha in time for Burning Crusade though. Ohio winters make for great gaming.

Still waiting for the expansion, when I expect a (possibly brief) resurgence on Horde side. When Loki decided to leave, he just suddenly made me guild leader, so if there is any serious activity, we need to get an active leader chosen and pass it on to them, as I'm just a caretaker.

Coincidentally I was looking through some old WoW screenshots from the very beginning of GWJ Alliance and found a few good ones with some familiar faces. It's hard to believe it's really been almost 2 years since we were raiding Deadmines and adventuring in Darkshire for the first time.

I'm still around and playing more than ever even after almost 2 years. I started over on Dark Iron with the whole Penny Arcade web comic wars thing and have been there ever since. I miss my mage sometimes, but I'm definitely happy with the warlock I rolled on DI.
We managed to down C'thun this past Saturday after only two weeks of serious attempts. We kinda stopped progressing after the Twin Emps in AQ40 after the Naxx release as raid time was limited, but C'thun's loot table is just too good to ignore for long. Fights like C'thun remind me of why I continue to play this game. It's very Zeldaish in that he has a pattern and specific things must be done to reveal his weak spot, only now you have 39 other people in there with you and they all have to perform their jobs correctly in order to win. It's really amazing that it's possible to get a group that size coordinated enough to accomplish a fight so complex. Blizzard's boss fight designs have drastically improved over the early MC and BWL encounters.
It's good to see that a lot of the old crew are still playing whether its still with the GWJ Alliance or elsewhere. It's a great game and one I don't foresee myself tiring of very soon, especially with all the upcoming Burning Crusade goodies

What format do WoW screenshots come out in, anyway? I've taken a few, but I went to look at them the other day and noticed that they sported an extension that I didn't recognize.

WoW shots are in .tga format. Most image editors like photoshop, paintshop etc. should be able to view them. Irfanview is a free image viewer with some nice features that can read .tga stuff.
As well as having some handy dandy Resize Image presets. Easily one of the best freeware/shareware apps of all time.

I quit Blackhand and WoW and started taking my free time back. Well, I do have a secret, I started playing again last year with the ToG (oldergamers.com) crew and had a great run that just ended this month. I am retiring from WoW for good. I was way too much into hardcore raiding. My next mmo of any type will be Huxley on a more casual schedule.
As much as I like WoW I have to stop sometime. I have played it more than any other game ever and had a level 60 raiding character on both factions, so I have seen almost all there is to see (even Naxx). I always thought I would make it to the expansion but I am going to move on.

Due to not being able to get on Blackhand at launch, I started playing on Bloodhoof. My warlock never made it to 40 there before we (GWJ) started playing on Frostmane. I have a 60 rogue and 60 priest on Frostmane. The rogue is the only character that I have taken raiding (MC & ZG).
When 2 of my RL friends started playing we all rolled on Shadowmoon and that is where I spend all my time now. I have a 60 priest and 60 druid there. Both are geared as well as they can be in pre-raid gear.
I am looking forward to the expansion very much but have you guys found that it's hard to justify raiding when you know that the expansion is coming?
Codexica - GWJ Alliance
I've actually considered this myself recently. I still raid since there are quite a few things that I'm interested in getting from them. The expansion will change current raid dynamics quite a bit - it may even ultimately kill the 40 man raid as 70's start popping up.

Well if your still playing and at the part in the game.. its not like there is that much else to do.. besides.. I want to see ALL the content.. not just skip the 40 mans and go back to grinding again.
Some of the boss encounters are really cool.. and there are cool zones and graphics in the 40 man instances.
Not to mention I still believe most of the BWL and on Epics will still be very viable in the expansion... there will be better stuff naturally but its going to be even harder to get that stuff without current end game gear.
Aint nothing new about the world order..it's been playing since the day they put George Washington on a quarter

I understand the question, although it doesn't apply to me. I don't think, Guru, that it's a question of seeing the content or not - I think what he's getting at is that people are killing themselves, wiping night after night as they try some of the toughest raids, and they could just sit back and wait for BC to hit and they'll start becoming easier as people level up.
I know that I want to hit all good content that I can along the way, because, as you say, the encounters are cool.

You never know as well, they just changed ZG somewhat to make it more challenging, there's no saying they wouldn't alter MC or BWL as well to make the gear more difficult to get. I guess we're all under the assumption that these instances won't have any tooling over, but I would find it very funny if they upped the difficulty of some of the instances to match the rise in the level cap. I'm very happy with the gear I've gotten from MC and ZG and I always find that it's really fun to run those 20-40 man instances.
We've just finished a full ZG run with the SGA and I can really say that some of the drops are on par with what you'd get from a Ragnaros drop. It's also very satisfying to know that we accomplished something with the best we have at the current level caps... probably won't seem as big a feat when we're all doing it at lvl 70.

ZG was made harder? The last major change made it easier and made the bosses have more drops. It is still my favorite instance.

Well they finally did remove the LOS exploit from the Bloodlord.. heh. But overall the bosses are all a tad easier and certainly the loot improved a few patches ago.
Jindo is still a bastard though.

Yeah, the LOS exploit was fixed a long time ago and the last big patch made the speakers have less hitpoints and the bosses feel a tad easier. I also loved when they made the bosses have more loot. I got both my claws in one run after the change.
I will miss the ZG!
Jindo can definitely be a pain, we one-shotted him our very first attempt (and got cocky about it) and then struggled for another month until we got him on farm. We were clearing every boss in the zone in just under 3 hours, great times. I hit exalted with ZG on my last ever WoW raid, oh well.

I was in a Bloodlord kill just after the patch, and the spear wall is gone now. But, we just off-tanked the raptor with a druid* & killed the Bloodlord. He even leveled up a couple times as DPS was a little off, but it didn't seem as difficult as it used to be.
*Well, the druid has GM PvP gear & 10,000 armor in bear form, so he can pretty much tank anything in there.

It is incredible when I stop and think back on the time I've spent on Dark Iron.
It's just been so long!
Hmmm....I've been over on Thunderhorn with Tactical Gamer since November. After playing the Beta, I thought: "Not my bag, baby!" Boy, was I wrong. I actually like the whole levelling phase-the different classes, etc. That's bad from the wife aggro standpoint.
Still, there isn't much else out there to interest me. FPS shooters? Burnt out. RTS? Not interested. I guess I just like the whole social aspect to the MMO thang.
That said, I'm currently Guildless...I was kinda hoping to join up with some of the old GWJ crew, but it looks like you lot are in Negative, or have retired prior to the expansion.
Come on guys! Get back in the game!

I quit when I needed to buckle down and complete the MCSE, when I was done I tried to put the needle back in my arm but it didn't click anymore. My brother had made the jump to the sister server when they were trying to load balance the servers (he still regrets it) and everyone I knew in the guild was either way too uber or long gone.
I may still have a bunch of screenshots from the early days, I'll have to hunt through the files now.
