I hope this is the correct forum to post this announcement. I had a hard time deciding whether to use this forum or the games forum.

I will be hosting a LAN for my Phoenix area gaming group. The cost is free. We hope to have 20-25 people. This will be on Sat, Sept 23rd at my house in Gilbert, AZ

We will be playing:
BF2, BF2:PoE MOD, FlatOut2, CS:S, DoD:S and possibly Savage 2.0

Our gaming group is over 7 years old and the age range is 26-40. We are always excited to get mature gamers into our group of LAN addicts.

If this sounds like something you might be interested in, you can contact me via PM, or visit our LAN group site @ http://www.teamlan.org

I live in Paradise Valley. I'm sorry, but Gilbert is too...common for me.

And PV is too Snooty for ME!

Alas, that would be a long drive, but if you pack enough trail mix and bring a sleeping bag you would be just fine.

I have a cool Gilbert story. We lived there from 1979 to 1983, when it was tiny, tiny. My parents used the sale proceeds from our previous house to have a nice custom-built house constructed for us. Now, fast forward to 1994. My wife and I were going to be in the area, and I wanted to see the old house again. To help prove I was not an axe murderer, I borrowed a photo album from my parents that showed the house being constructed and brought that along. I knocked on the door, and a nice man about my dad's age answered the door. I showed him the album and explained why I was there, and he graciously invited me in for a tour.

After letting me wander a bit, we sat down in the dining room to look at the album more, and he asked where we had moved to from there. Turned out he had lived in the same town we moved to, but had moved away a few years before we arrived there. Since he was around my dad's age, I asked if he had any kids. He said he did, and gave their names. Hmmm, those were the names of my girlfriend from my senior year of high school (and my date at the senior prom), and her brother. I asked him his last name, and it was the same as my old girlfriend. With my sense of disbelief increasing, I mentioned her middle name, and he said, "Yes, that's her," and pointed to a picture on a bulletin board that I had not noticed. It was her!

Her parents were divorced before I met her, so I had not met her father before. But sure enough, my old girlfriend's dad was living in the custom house my family had built, 500 miles away. Small world.

It is a small world!

I didn't know anyone lived in Gilbert before 2000. It exploded then. Have you been back recently?

I don't think I've ever been to Gilbert, but I'm down in the ginormous retirement trailer park known as Mesa every year or two now. The more I visit AZ, the more I'm lovin' it I have to say, and not just because it's usually about -40 back home when I'm visiting

I haven't been back since the time I met my ex-girlfriend's dad, but my wife goes there when she is in the area. Apparently the old downtown area now has a semi-famous scrapbooking store, and a good barbeque place. Someone sent me an article about how Gilbert was the fastest growing city in the US several years in a row, passing 175,000 now. Areas that were distant cotton fields to me are now built-out subdivisions.
