The demo is out, I know Elysium was impressed by the game's showing at E3. Check out Blue News or Dubious Quality for the links.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

Downloading now. Thanks for the headsup!

Thanks to the slowish speed of my DSL I probably won't get to try it before I leave for work today, but I'll probably fire it up when I get home late tonight.

nice Spunior didn't know that you are working on Paraworld, else I'd be bugging you about release date for a long time now

I am still waiting for my download to finish, but in the mean time could you please shed some insiders light on your publisher? I remember there were some doubts that people had with paraworld's publisher over at the game's forum. I hope that they are really treating you guys with respect this time.

It'll be Aspyr for NA, Novy Disk in Russia and Deep Silver in Europe. You need to play the demo for a bit, once you get used to the little thingy we call "Army Controller", you'll see what all the fuss is about. Make sure to check out the control manual that comes along with the demo.

We did set up a very special community platform for the game. Ranking and matchmaking mechanisms on that website will be rock-solid since they're provided by eSports experts.

The demo features 2 out of 3 tribes, 2 MP maps (1on1, 2on2) and 3 out of 9 playable heroes. You can also set up a dedicated PW demo server on a separate machine with this demo if that's something you consider interesting.

Made it through the tutorial - and while my rig is pretty stout, I think it'll play well on most (even yours, Asz). I haven't gotten much use out of the "Army Commander" yet so I can't comment as to it's usefulness but I'm really enjoying the setting.

Gonna put a few skirmish rounds in to get a better feel of the game.

I remember seeing Certis playing this at E3 and loving it. I remember him saying something along the lines of it possibly being "the cat's meow". That is paraphrasing of course but I remember watching him play it and thought it was hella cool looking.

I played it, it's Age of Empires, exactly like Age of Empires. If you like AOE, you'll probably like this.

It feels like a proper evolution of AOE to me, if the comparison must be made. The army tab, the graphics engine and damn near everything else is a real next step in the style. And freaking T-Rex's!

This was actually my impression as well!

I really love the army tab, and the setting is a really nice switch from the usual stuff.

The graphics are damned pretty with some AA turned on (though I'd like to see a way to turn it on from in-game!).

Oh, and the menu music is awesome.

In terms of gameplay and pace, we do think it's somewhere between AoE and DoW. The focus certainly is stronger on battle than in AoE.

If you tinker around with the game a bit, you'll see how much depth there is to the whole unit system. Keep in mind that promoting units during the battle is one of the key elements to succeed rather than promoting them as soon as you can. Don't forget that heroes will add new units or buildings to your tech-tree. Also, a part of the micromanagement doesn't happen on the main screen, it happens in the army tab. And keep in mind that you can send units to another unit or load them onto another unit just through the army tab as well. (Hold ALT pressed and right-click onto a unit's icon to send all the currently selected troops to the position of that unit - or even heal it if a healer is selected.) Which means you don't have to scroll around like hell to get things done. Not to mention small things that you will miss in other titles once you got used to them. You can qeue unit or upgrade productions right after a building is placed, for instance. Even if it's not finished yet at all. I'm not kidding, it's kind of 'irritating' to play games who don't do that if you've played PW for a bit. Same for simply being able to access any unit of your choice within a second no matter whether you created a group shortcut or not.

This is just the same old thing. I can see the 'catch' for the funding agencies.... 'It's just like Age of Empires, but with dinosaurs! And the players will be able to have a T-Rex! And the graphics will be great!"

This does not change the fact that this is the same game. It is, in fact, an almost literal carbon copy of AOE. Yes, it's improved, but just in the details... the fundamentals are all the same. Food, stone, and timber. All of them are limited and don't regenerate. Forestry collection building. Stone collection building. Farms. Warehouse. Cottages. Basic unit building, medium unit building, advanced unit building.

It's exactly the same game.

Calling this even 'evolutionary' is a stretch. "Slavish copy, but with zomg DINOSAURS" is much more accurate.

Edit to add: yes, the extra details are great, but, geeze, 'being able to get to your whole army immediately' is just a detail. It's a great idea, but it would be soooo much better with a new, you know, game.

Second edit: removed two words.
