After messing around with the Half-Life 2 Sourceforts mod, I think it would be a good one to try out! You can grab the mod here and read more about it in the original thread.
8PM CST is the time, we'll figure out what to do about a server before then hopefully.

I'm in.
Well, I don't like to toot my own horn, but I'm a pretty good amateur rectal photographer. Would you like to see my portfolio?

SourceForts is awesome, but not Zombie Skate missing awesome.

There's a slight chance I'll be busy, but I'm game.

Gave it a shot last night and it turned out to be more fun than I expected. The only problem is that the game lends itself to asshattery so, assuming we field enough people, it may be a good idea to set up a GWJ server. On about my 3rd round, two people joined the server and were systematically removing all of the barricades as they were being built. No admin meant that the game was effectively screwed for my team at that point. Hooray anonymity!

Unfortunately, neither Wednesday or Thursday work for me, but if we have a second go-round soon, I'll definitely be in.

I should be in. Anyone have any cheap deals on buying HL2 before then? (I think I'll want the whole game)

Need to go out and buy HL2: Ep1 just so I can play this. My inner PC gamer has been asleep for a couple years, but I was a big fan of the Wheel of time fortbuilding style, so I'll be really interested to see how this works.

I am in. Double in.
Got episode 1 last night, but it couldn't get started. In fact, it froze, and screwed up all my graphical settings. Unless a miracle happens, I think I'm out tonight.
Hopefully there'll be another one soon.

I've been trying to play this one, but I keep getting huge lag spikes in the middle of combat, after which I end up dead. Anyone else having trouble with this mod?

Probably the dynamic environment. Ever try playing Empires mod? *shudder
I get it too, but I just accept that it doesn't change the fact that I would spray and pray anyways.

There's always been a cap on how many pieces each side could generate that so far has always fallen short of destabilizing my unimpressive rig.

This mod takes pretty significant CPU resources due to the large number of objects. If you are playing on a server, the operator may not be taking the large demands of the mod into account.
I'm trying to set up a server for you guys for this evening, but I'm going to have to probably limit the numbers of players to less than we use for HL2DM as the load is much greater on the server.
I've also been toying with setting up a HL2CTF server as a change of pace from HL2DM. That is a fun mod.

I've downloaded the mod, and after work I'm going to run out and buy the game. Unless there's some major hassle in installation, I'll be there with bells on.
BTW, are there some patches that I need to download for HL2? Does Steam handle all that? As a sidebar, I reinstalled Neverwinter Nights last night, and it has a fantastic auto-update system for patching - although you have to hit the "update" button yourself. WoW has a similar system but does it automatically. I really hope this is the future of patches.
EDIT: I love CTF! And jakeleg, what happened to your classic Shipwreck avatar?

Awesome! Let me know the details if you manage it, otherwise we'll probably go pub-hopping.

Yes! pub-humping!

Shipwreck was looking a little long in the tooth, so I switched to Gort from 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' for a short break. Shipwreck will return from vacation at some point.
If we get enough interest, I'd love to try HL2CTF a GWJ event. It is a lot of fun and the devs have done a nice job with it. Think HL2DM weapons but with teamplay and objectives.
The other really superb HL2 mod is 'The Hidden'. One player is the Hidden. He is a psychotic mutant with incredible powers: invisibility (looks like the Predator cloaking), can leap up walls - but only carries a knife and pipebombs for weapons. The rest of the players are a commando team tasked with exterminating the Hidden. They have normal machine guns, pistols, etc. Man, it is a blast.
Sorrry for the thread side-track. I'll post here if I can get the SourceForts server setup and stable for the event tonight.

The closer you get to Hal from 2001 the better. I like to just think of you as the server itself.

Awesome, jeckleg. Thanks for trying to get stuff setup. I'd be down for some CTF as well.
Oh, man! We so have to try this out!

I've had Hidden installed for ages, but never played the bloody thing.

I'm gonna throw in my support for CTF and The Hidden. I'm still loving toilet toss but change doesn't hurt either.

It is currently my favorite community made Source mod because the gameplay is so unique. Lots of stalking and sheer terror. Admittedly, it is rough around the edges still, but can be tremendously fun and each release gets a little better. I've always thought it would go over well here if we ever got a group to try it out.

Hidden or CTF this Sunday?

Hidden is a fun game even with pubbers, and seems like the type of game that would really benefit from a close knit group. Hunting a GWJer, with everyone on TeamSpeak - how could it not be fun?
Xbox Live: StaatsM
Yeah the Hidden would be a great GWJ-only game. The taunting involved would be priceless, though the commando/hunters really need their own voice channel to be able to coordinate against the Hidden. Also, 14 players would be too many for a Hidden game. The Hidden would have no chance against 13 hunters if they use teamwork. The optimum number would be 5 or 6 hunters against 1 Hidden. We could give it a try though. HL2CTF on the other hand would be just about perfect with 14-16 players.

I know this is a Half Life 2 thread, but I think an Aliens Vs Predator 2 GWJ night would be fantastic.
