Have a look at the promotional video they did, wich resumes the game.

Not per se, but I don't want to allow even the possibility to think about whining because of ping. Also, one high ping player can screw up the whole server. That's why I never played with GWJ crew so far.

But, by Odin, things will change one day. Oh, they will.

Patient am I.

Wow, I like that video. It's very straight and to the point.

Seems just yesterday when we had 56k modems and anything under 300 was gravy.

Video seems interesting. I would however like to see a little more out of the build phase than drop barracade here.

Here is a link to a post in their forums, with the Noobs guide to Sourceforts with lots of pictures

The game is a round of 500 secs of build phase, and 500 secs of combat phase, then again build, and combat two times more, in the build phase you can unlock/lock pieces just pressing a key (R), and if you want to rotate pieces, that must be done manually, there is no "turn-15º-left" key.

In the combat phase you can unlock/lock pieces as well, but for that you must be Engineer class, get close to the piece you want to unlock, and press R key for about 30 seconds, during that time you see a lot of soldering sparkles, and sound like of a radial saw, if you get killed, you must start again from the beggining. Its not easy to unlock a enemy front wall piece...

Not much to say, if you are interested donwload it and play, there are always people playing.

That sounds awesome. Get me to finally buy HL2 awesome.

And wait - it alternates build, fight, build, fight? It's Ramparts the FPS!!!

Anything that gets Lupus to put down his crowbar, especially for a whole 500 seconds, has my vote. Also, yes: EVENT!

Yes! I loved Rampart! You nailed what I was thinking watching that video, but I couldn't place it at the time.

Just gave this a run on one of the public servers running. It's pretty fun just to try building various structures.

One thing I didn't realize was that it has different classes a little along the lines of team fortress. There's Scout, Soldier, Engineer, Sniper, and ... there might be one more, but I don't recall.

Looks to have plenty of potential for GWJ'er tomfoolery

Ah, I knew I was forgetting one of them. Kind of had them and Soldiers metally grouped together. Thanks.

You can't just use HL2DM can you? Gotta have HL2?

Intern

I dont have HL2 installed, just HL2:DM, HL2 is only for single player.

i think, not 100% sure, if you just buy HL2:Ep1, they give free Counterstrike + HL2:DM so you can play HL2 mods, but not sure.

I tried to install it but it just makes a shortcut to My Computer on the desktop and adds nothing to the Steam Games list. Is there a trick or something I'm not aware of with Steam?

EDIT: Nevermind, you just have to fiddle with the HL2DM shortcut. Now for figuring out how to build.

EDIT: Sourceforts is crazy-delicious. I'd definitely be up for some GWJ action here.

HL2DM: is this something that comes with HL2, or is purchased separately, or what?

It comes with HL2, Episode 1, and other stuff apparently. If you get Steam by itself is it free to download?

I just spent waaay too much time playing that. I blame kabutor.

No, you must buy or HL2 or HL2:Ep1, those two are the ones with HL2:Deathmatch that is the thing needed for the multiplayer mods (afaik)

So beautiful... they should have sent a poet. Seriously, this is to be checked out. I can't really put into words how well the building part works and how statically stale this makes other games feel by comparison. The tactical ramifications of ramparts, ramps, walls, cubbyholes, bridges, etc. that can change on the fly are dauntingly awesome.

Agreed, the possibilties are very, very interesting. While the manuevering of the building items/blocks can be difficult and frustrating, if you have a good team you can get a couple of master builders constructing while the rest of the team becomes the supply chain. Team work is essential. Think I shall go play some more.
