RTP, NC Goojer Slap & Tickle - COMING THIS OCTOBER 14th
We've talked about it before, so here's a thread for it. This is preliminary planning, I am not proposing any dates right now. I just figured I'd step up and offer to help organize.
First off, I'd like to hear some ideas for what kind of get-together we could have. I know previous slap & tickle discussions have involved shooting ranges, arcade/bars, paintball.
Judging by the concentration of GWJ folk in NC, we're looking at somewhere in the area of Raleigh/Durham. I wouldn't give a second thought to gathering somewhere with up to an hour travel time from where I live, which means as far west as Greensboro. Any more than that and scheduling becomes more important to me.
So here are some ideas:
Arcade/bar - Is Jillian's still this kind of place? I've only been there once and it was several years ago as part of a company picnic. It's located in downtown Raleigh.
Laser Tag - Not as hardcore as paintball but easier and cleanup is faster.
Plus, less painful (just as the guy I once shot in the neck with a paintball gun). Adventure Landing in Raleigh on Capital Blvd has a laser tag arena, plus arcade, go carts, batting cages, and mini-golf. Reservations of the arena might be possible.
Paintball - I really enjoy it, though it's not everyone's thing. Rentals will cost money and so will the paintballs. I've played a couple of times at Gotcha Paintball in Rollesville. There might be closer places, I'm not sure. Not sure about field reservations. Believe me, it's a lot more fun to play with your fellow beginners on a reserved field rather than the hardcore players who come every weekend and play in the open matches.
Shooting range - Seems like more trouble than it's worth. This isn't really feasible with any kind of group on an indoor range. Public outdoor ranges aren't common in the area. The only one I know of has only certain times for new attendees to qualify on the range test. Plus this may not be of interest to everyone who might be attending.
Alright, Carolina Goojers, let's hear your thoughts. Any other suggestions for events or locations?

I've been on the verge of posting something like this for weeks.
I'm in, for sure. Laser Tag at Adventure Landing sounds perfect.

Screw you guys for not planning one in Charlotte. How am I going to tell my wife that I'm taking a two hour trip each way to play laser tag with guys from a website forum? I'm sure you all can see the condescending smirk from her now. I sure can, and my penis just reached up and slapped me. Hmm, I should probably get that looked at.

As I recall, there's even a pirate motif with that one. But then there's the recently opened Frankie's off of Alexander Dr., which is more, ahem, centrally located.
Besides, I still have some left over Funny Money from when I was last there...

My wife's family is in Cary so I might be able to make something in that area, but we are also currently broker than broke (They don't send people to Austraila anymore do they?) so alot would depend on timing.
Can we consider something in the Charlotte area, its much more convenient for the folks from the Western end of the state, as well as any South Carolina members. I have no idea what to do in Charlotte though, other than sports or Carrowinds, both of which would be expensive.
Finally, for the foreseeable future (until I sell my buisness/ get another job) Saturdays would be a no-go for me, Sundays would probably be my only option.

Bagga and Ferret: We haven't planned anything yet.
That's the point of the thread, to throw out ideas. I'm trying to get an idea of where people are located too. I know that Ferret is out west and Bagga is in Charlotte. I seem to recall another Goojer down that way as well? But then I'm in the RTP area, and so is ColdForged, Cartoonin99, Tyrian, Dragonfly, Aetius, BadMojo, Kurrelgyre, and DevilStick.
Frankly I'm not sure I want to encourage Bagga to show up if there's ANY danger of my being on the receiving end of a penis-slap.

For the record, I hate fun, I mean, "laser tag". However, depending on timing and such, I imagine Dragonfly and I could be persuaded to show up.
Much less the possibility of coconut bras!

Good point! I hadn't thought of that.

I think it's funny how these threads almost always start with about twenty posts saying "Man, I'd love to go to a S&T in the town you're talking about, but let's do it in MY town instead."

I think Jillian's is closed. I think I heard that anyway.

I wasn't sure where in NC you were located.
I'd be interested in hearing what Charlotte has to offer. But someone familiar with the area will have to propose something and provide some solid info for the rest of us.

Keep it up, I'll arrive naked.
As for Charlotte, let's see. I haven't been in the area too long, so I'm probably not the best resource. Let's see... there is a Dave & Buster's in Concord. There's of course Panthers/Bobcats games, or even the Charlotte Knights (AAA Baseball). Knights games are fun, cheap, and right near my house!
There's... my house. Though I'd probably have to hide my valuables before you all came over you shady thugs. Hell, if we had enough people, we could just rent a spot in a park and bbq, maybe play some softball or something.

I can't go this time, it conflicts with Cary Lazy Days, where I'll need to be on hand to help out the wife at her booth.

In my defense, I did not suggest my home town (Asheville) though I think it would be great fun to play name that gender or name that species in downtown Asheville.
Or, we could go to the Biltmore house and see how quickly we would all be asked to leave.
The Triangle probably does make the most sense, just as far number of natives, but as Charlotte would be a two hour drive for all of you, vs a 4 hour drive for myself or Jeb(the only other western goodger I know of) to RTP, I was just throwing it out there. I also seemed to have noticed folks from S.C. posting recently, and for them as well Charlotte would be more central.
If it ends up being in the Raleigh thats fine too, and I will do the best to bring my musk to the event.

I actually doubt I'll be able to make it at all if it's anytime within the next month or two... our weekends are pretty much sewn up all the way through October, and I have to work during the week. Though I do lament missing out on the butt pats. Ferret, you'll have to be my proxy.

If there's a decent hotel wherever this is planned I may just have to make the trip from Charleston.

I WOULD ATTEND.

Sounds like a plan. I am up for Charlotte, Raleigh, or somewhere of middling distance. I just need some notice beforehand so I could schedule that day off, unless it happens to fall on a Tuesday or Thursday. Those are my two days off.

lunabean wrote:Speaking for myself, I'm not interested in attending a sporting event. I'd not be opposed to playing in one, on the other hand. Of course, an outdoor event does make it more dependent on clear weather. Is there anything Adventure Landing-ish in Charlotte, a mix of eatery, arcade, laser tag, mini-golf?

There's a place whose name slightly escapes me... I believe it's called the "Family Fun Center" or some other such boring name. It has two floors of video games, 3 mini golf courses, go-karts, bumper boats, some goth-looking teens standing around a DDR machine, and some screaming kids. There's even a CarMax next door if that tickles your fancy. I know I've seen laser tag places around here as well, but not at that place.

Ah.... I'm not going to get a VD?
How about a Ritz, do you guys have a Ritz up there?
xbox live: Lester King 17 | WoW: Pawley - Holy Paladin
I don't think we have any Ritz hotels in the area... The Sheraton Imperial is pretty nice, and is smack in the middle of RTP. There's a Wyndham Suites, various Hiltons, Red Roof Inns, etc. Lots of lodging in the area.
Skriss: lvl 70 undead mage - Bloodhoof

Between Durham, RTP, Cary, and Raleigh, there's a huge number of hotels around. But a Ritz? I don't think so. There's also the Radisson Governor's Inn though.

Don't worry about the Ritz, it's not like I'd bring a date.
Where this Slap and Tickle going to be is more important. Granted, having said that, I'm not going to put any significant effort into planning it. But I do reserve the right to bitch about it.

I'd probably show up and lurk around.
