As predicted, the sound you hear is Bush tossing Americans under the bus.

There is only an up or down--up to a man's age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order--or down to the ant heap totalitarianism,... those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

Tossing them under the bus, how so? The article mainly talks about Congress trying to pass laws to protect those who may be prosecuted.

Change that to 'Congress' and 'American Human Rights Rhetoric' I'll agree... they'll be the ones changing their minds and performing War on Terror CYA.

I am curious on what the US goverment considers torture and whats not torture at the moment, the definition seems to change each day. One more thing do you agree on this definition.....?

Everyone knows that torture is barbaric or dont you agree, and if the servicemen do cross the line, they should take a fall, together with whoever ordered/implied that the line should be crossed. If everything is right, as the Bush administration claims, no one should be needing the protection this lawchange brings right???
