Off road rally for the PC?

So, I like off road rally games. Colin Mcrae Rally 1 and 2 were very enjoyable in my opinion and I am looking for more. The more simulation-like, the better. I don't really go in for the arcade physics. Are there such games for the PC these days? Or is this type of game kinda dead now?

The Colin Mcrae series is alive and well. The newest one is 2005 and I think it kicks some serious butt. Very fun game.

That being said, Richard Burns Rally is a true rally simulation for the PC. Not for the faint of heart, it is a game that will test your patience and if you log enough hours it just might offer some reward. Colin Mcrae serves as a nice balance between arcade and sim for me, but if you are a big fan of WRC then you might want to plunge into RBR. I found it to be a little too frustrating to be worth my time.

I tried the 2005 CMR demo and frankly, my MS Sidewinder force feedback steering wheel had lots of play in it and I couldn't fix it. It kept me from really wanting to try the 2005 one even though 2.0 was very enjoyable for me. I will have to look up this Richard Burns Rally and see what that's all about. Thanks for the links.

I played the hell outta Rallisport Challenge... it's definitely not an arcade style game, but not having played any others in the genre I can't definitively say it's a sim either. I think the sequel is available for PC as well.

If this is the Prime Directive, the choice is easy. I can only reafirm the good advice you got earlier. Richard Burns Rally it is.

With Colin McRae Rally 2.0, when I really rolled my car, instead of losing the race, my car just appeared back on the road like nothing really bad happened. That turned me off. So, we'll give the RBR a shot. I'm a glutton for punishment.

It has arcade elements and sim elements. It is sort of a cross. With that being said, the Rallisport games are more enjoyable then any other racing games I have played. 4 players split screen also rocks and the graphics are still incredible to this date.

Sadly Rallisport 2 is not available for the PC. If it were, I would own it. I've got CMR 05, and the game looks incredible. It's hard as crap too. I'm not using a steering wheel (using a PS2 USB adapater instead), so maybe that's my problem. My only real complaint is that I wish there were a real career mode similar to something like the Gran Turismo series.

RBR is simply the rally sim to own. They are all fun, I am a bit of a collector of these. But once you have RBR figured out (don't even try without a good wheel) there is nothing in the sim-world quite as satisfying. And, it will improve your driving skills in any racing "simulation" from then on out. I hope you are able to find a copy.
