Weiner Bombers or Wiener Bombers?

Hey Souldaddy, I know you said you are playing WoW tonight, but if you get a chance can you log on at some point so that you can let me into the squad? I think that after another hour or two of running 1 on 1 war missions against the AI, I'll be ready to switch over and start fighting the good fight for the real GWJ squad.

(Of course, this is assuming that either Tarakia is in control of their capital tonight or we decide to "exile" the squad to either Morskoj or Sal Kar.)

Ah, don't worry about that commie crustacean. The freedom fighters of Tarakia always welcome brothers to join and fight the Red threat.

Don't worry, Nei, we're all still new. Some of us just obsessed about the game a lot more before it's release.

We'll get you going. Also, I think your parts problem might have to do with the fact that you joined Tarakia to start with, and that as long as their capitol is captured by another country their shop is shut down. Join up with the squad tonight, though. I'll try to bring over a few spare parts from Sal Kar when I make the move, and if we end up defecting you'll have better access. Also, you can run the single player missions for parts and experience. The parts won't be great compared to what can be bought online, but you will get a nice varied collection to start yourself off with.

Speaking of which, any request for parts? I can't promise to bring too much over (since mostly I've just been building a good variety of parts) but I'll run a couple missions after work with the express purpose of earning cash to buy parts for the squad. Should I try to pick out parts suited to a specific class? Do you a paricular kind of mobility base or weapon pod? Maybe some support parts like armor plating, etc? Or just some decent system devices?

(I've already got two extra copies of a very good mobility system device, by the way.)

I think I read in the review that the squad is 20 but only 6 can play at a time?

20 players cap for a squad but only 6 can play at given time.

Yeah, I've notice... does that also effect the lottery?

For the time being, I manage to scrap a scout/soldier Mech from SP parts, which seems to be ok for the time being. I took it for a test drive on one of the missions to make some money... it held up, although I only manage to destroy 30 out of 32 targets... which is 4.7k in the bank. Still, I have yet to test it with Mech on Mech battle.

Slightly off-topic, Mission 6 for Soldier... TC is useless. Finally was able to finish the soldier story by ignoring the TC chatter.

Yes, but to be clear, it supports up to 6 vs 6 matches.

Nei wrote:

Yeah, probably, since the lottery section (called "special parts") is a sub section of the normal shop options.

Zero, I would really appreciate it if you could pick me up some system devices. Sal Kar also seems to have good assist parts and missile weapons, so if you could hook me up with some of those I'd be much appreciative.

I'm a bit tight on cash but I'll try to buy enough heavy cockpits and big guns from Morskoj to spread the love around. Morskoj also has hover and wheel mobility bases with rather impressive max loads, and I've heard that they produce the best radiators so I'll snag some of those too.

That's the only Soldier mission on which I didn't get a Rank S on my first try. Blowing up that enemy base is a total PITA.

Hmm, a good wheel base would be useful. I have one, but it seems fairly middle of the road.

In any case, unless there are any other requests, I'll pick up a few more system devices and see if I can find a good missile pod for you. I know I saw a huge "heavy arms" missile launcher, but there might be a few "light arms" pods that I can grab for you as well.

If you are tight on cash do the War missions against AI. Each one nets like 170,000. It's a bit rediculous the amount of money you can make really quick. Already there isn't anything I can't buy.

It does not affect the lottery, I won a NA array last night. Squad name is corrected, it's "Wiener Bombers" in the game.

You'll probably see my hounds on the light side - scouts, commanders, soldiers. I like to move fast and have access to lots of information. In fact, I'll probably field our first commander hound tonight. Sal Kar parts for me!

If you are just starting and have no idea what to do, I suggest making a soldier hound for a good combination of mobility and firepower.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

While looking over the Captured Parts list I saw a rather nice looking Sal Kar missile launcher in Heavy Arms. Looked kind of like two turbine engines. I'll pick up those wheels for you once I've got some surplus cash.

So, I grabbed a copy yesterday and gave the game a go. I'm liking it so far, but I'll need to play a bit online to see if it's a keeper. I have to say that the controls are excellent. Within minutes I was comfortable moving around.

I'll probably stick to being a soldier online for a bit, until I get a good feel for it.

One thing about the customization. I really like that you can do so much, but it feels a bit overwhelming. Also, I've yet to figure out how to read the info shown around the screen. I'll have to give it some more time tonight.

Finally, damn it, did you have to pick Monday?! I'm sure we'll play other nights as well, but I more than likely wont be able to play on Mondays.

Start up a fake squad. That will allow you to launch Neroimus War missions. Set up a 1 player match in a region with a high reward, then go ready and chose "vs cpu start" before someone can join your lobby. I think people can still join the match after you launch the mission, but most of the time you will be fighting an AI hound. See my notes in the impressions thread for my thoughts on how to approach this kind of match.

I hear ya brother. And I just bought a Logitech G15 keyboard. And headset. And the DS Lite and a host of games a couple weeks back. Damnit!

I might pick this up after work against my better .. er.. wallet judgement.

Another question though, lets just say there's 12 Goodjers online and we all wanna play. Can both "teams" tackle the Online stuff? Or can only 1 team do the Online mode at a time?

There are two kinds of online battles.
1. Neroimus War - These are battles that affect the persistant world. Here you fight with your squadmates against unknown enemies trying to gain territory for your nation. There is only one game type here that is a combination of territory grab (capturing COMBAS towers), deathmatch (destroying all other hounds), and assault (finding and destroying the enemy's HQ). Winning these battles earns you cash to buy parts. Since you can only fight with squadmates on your side, you will only be playing with up to 6 people at a time. Of course, if there are more than 6 people in the same squad online at once, the squad can run multiple missions at the same time and then meet back up in the "squad lobby." The squad lobby, by the way, is basically there any time you are in the online menus. Whether you are shopping, building, looking at the news, or planning a new mission, you will always be in communication with other squad members who are also in the online menus.

2. Free Battles - These are user customizable game types (CTF, deathmatch, territories, etc) where you can play with anyone regardless of nation or squad affliliation. So here we could have 12 Goodjers in the same match, playing either free for all or in teams of up to 6 members. There are lots of options here, including the ability to have communication with your teammates (and opponents) regardless of who holds COMBAS towers.

Yeah, I just ordered a PodXT (will be here tomorrow!) to respark my guitar playing.

So let me beg some info on parts gathering. You can start as one of the three sects and buy up their goodies, then switch to Tarakia and carry it over? But it's just one item per purchase (meaning you don't buy the tech)? What's that about Captured Items? So you still have a chance to get goods from other sects via looting?

I'll jump on tonight to get in the squad.

I've got a blazing fast scout and soldier hound ready to go.. Point me in the direction of the enemy and give me a shove! I am hoping that they've fixed the crash problem with launching non-Neroimus war sorties, as that seemed to be a problem last night. (I'm 0 for 2 in jumping on live enabled matches..)

- "You can start as one of the three sects and buy up their goodies, then switch to Tarakia and carry it over?"

That's what I'm doing. However, we're still a bit unsure about whether or not we are going to stick with Tarakia, since you can't join or switch to a nation when it doesn't control it's capital (or buy parts, for that matter).

- "But it's just one item per purchase (meaning you don't buy the tech)?"

Yeah. If I want to have four HEAT rocket pods on my hound, I have to buy four copies of the part. If I sell one or trade it with a squad member it is gone. However, you can save as many sets of "assembly data" as you want. So you could design a dozen different mechs that all use those same four weapons pods, and change between them by simply loading a different assembly.

- "What's that about Captured Items?"

Captured and Experimental items are in a category of the shop called "special parts." You go there and look through lists of parts from other nations (captured) or higher quality parts from your nation (experimental), but instead of buying them in the normal way, you enter your name into a lottery. Basically, you place a deposit on the part, and then after a set amount of time the server chooses one player who entered the lottery for that part and gives it to them. Everyone else gets their deposit back.

- "So you still have a chance to get goods from other sects via looting?"

Not exactly. You don't get to take parts off the field after a victory. However, it seems like the parts that are available in the "captured" area of the special parts shop are influnced by what territories your nation has recently conquered in the war.
