Good game-related podcasts?
So since the demise of GWJ Radio, I have had to look to other, lesser shows for a game-related fix. Of course, as a 360 owner, I listen to Major Nelson's show, but I'm looking for more. Suggestions?
Here are some I've considered, please give me your thoughts:
Gamertag Radio - downloading a show now and will see what I think. It's another Xbox 360 show.
Penny Arcade - the way they describe the show makes it sound like something lazy they do just because they know they could tape themselves taking a dump and thousands would listen. I love their comics and their commentary, but I don't want to be one of those thousands if indeed that is what the show is like.
1up.com show - another one that I've somehow gotten a bad impression of without ever listening to. The bit on the Press Pass today about Square Enix vs one of the hosts definitely reinforced that negative image. That being said, I read EGM and go to 1up.com daily, so should I try it?
Thoughts on those? Other ideas? Thanks!

Would be a good idea. I plan to have Logan sit in for me when I am on my honeymoon.

Dreamstation.cc - Pretty good, one of the longer running gaming podcasts. Pretty straightforward gaming news and some reviews. Not particularly hardcore, nice for the non-gaming news junkie.
Chatterbox - A real, actual over-the-air radio show, also offered up in podcast form. Always pleasant to listen to.
GAMERadio - Probably the closest in format and style to GWJ Radio. Two guys talking about games, more about interesting chatter and less about trying to be an all-encompassing gaming news show.
Gaming Steve - Steve's very knowledgeable and well connected in the gaming industry, gets some fantastic interviews.
GDC Radio - For developers. Haven't listened to this one too much yet, but what I've heard has been roundtable discussion of things primarily of interest to developers.
Major Nelson - For the Xbox owners, this one's pretty much a must. Lots of inside stuff and breaking news on Xbox and Xbox Live.

One Life Left is a radio show done in the Uk, it's not exactly extensive but they have good reviews and it's all sexy British accents. It's a nice, light listen with lots of fun little segments from different contributers. Kind of reminds me of a British audio form of GWJ in some ways.

I usually dislike 1up radio but I looove thier videopodcast. Jane Pinkard is a hot mental piece of ass, and she owns game girl advance too
I like 1Up Yours and the CGW podcast. The old 1up that had two women on it talking about games was really bad, in my opinion. 1Up Yours has some good talking points and with 4+ people on the show usually, they manage to get some varied opinions.
I can suggest one podcast to stay away from. Gamespot's On the Spot is horrid. It's like a bunch of frat boys got a computer and a microphone and thought it would be kewl to make a podcast, dude...
Is that a hint? Please let it be so...

Don't forget about GWJ Radio classic mode. That's where you listen to the old ones over, and over, and over, and then weep.

These days I listen to Major Nelson, Gaming Steve (although I often just skim through looking for the nuggets amonst the rambling), and most of the Ziff-Davis podcasts (1up Yours, CGW, and EGM). I have to agree with a few people above and say that the 1up and CGW are the cream of the crop these days. However, the EGM one seems to be finding its legs lately too. I also have checked out the alt.NPR show, and it was good, but it has really just gotten started so it is hard to judge where it is going.
Also, here are some podcasts that I would suggest you avoid, as I listened to them for a while and got sick of them: anything by IGN, anything by Gamespot, and Gamer Andy. The first two just further illustrate the fact that Ziff-Davis is the only major gaming news outlet that has been able to find people of any quality to work for them, and the latter is just a bunch of idiots chuckling about how cool they think they are (I found them because they had a pretty decent episode with impressions of Oblivion, but quickly discovered that they were ear gratingly aweful).
So, GWJ Radio comeback, eh? Good stuff, that.

I recently started listening to the CheapAssGamer and Major Nelson podcasts. The CAGCast and Major Nelson cast are good because they're minimal on the laughing and more on the talking. The one problem I have with most podcasts is that they're only as good as the really bad morning radio shows i.e. 90% bad jokes and laughing about said bad jokes.

Thanks for this list. I have been listening to the 1UP Podcasts and they are great. By the name you would think it was pretty juvenile stuff but I find the guys hilarious and they have some great discussions.
GWJ was the best, but I also like Gaming Steve and 1up Yours. PC Gamer is good. Haven't seen this posted yet, but Evil Avatar has a good podcast too. OXM is OK, but seems a little forced. They had a great interview with Cliffy B last month.
The only problem I had with CAGcast was CheapyD's covering of other sites reviews for games. I would rather hear what he thought about the game than to tell me what IGN said.

How long are these shows? I see something like this:
and I wonder where one gets the time to listen to all of them. I try to listen to as many topics per week as I can, but some shows always monopolize more of my time than others because they're an hour or longer. 30 minute podcasts are my favorite. Also, I like World of Warcast simply because they use chapters allowing me to easily skip past portions I'm not interested.

Agreed. CheapyD and Wombat eventually squeeze in comments about games they're playing, they only really use IGN reviews for super-new games that are out in the week or games that they're straight-out not interested in. I don't blame them either, they have jobs to tend to as far as I know.

I think 20 minutes, once a week, is really the sweet spot, with 45 minutes being a sane maximum.
Very few podcasts actually have enough worthwhile to say to stretch any longer than that, and MOST would benefit by squeezing down to ~20 minutes of just the good stuff.
There's so much podcast content out there, and I would much rather hear 20 minutes of everyone's best, rather than an hour and a half of highlights mixed in with lowlights and boring stretches.

I think time restrictions keeps you focused too, if these shows don't have to worry about going long they're more likely to meander all over the place. For me, 45 mins to an hour is about right. I think GWJ Radio got better as the shows got shorter.

I like a decent chunk of show myself, but I think around an hour a week is a good target for a podcast that features lively conversation (such as GWJ Radio, 1up Yours, or One Life Left).
