Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift

So I've seen the Fast and Furious videogame, and somehow have avoided the first 2 movies of the franchise. The only thing I know of them? They have car races and one has Vin Diesel (the first, because hey, after that he was a star.)

Now they have a third, Tokyo Drift, just caught a commercial trailer for it, and they had him in the commercial. But, he isn't in the movie according to IMDB. Did this movie turn out so fekkin bad that they needed him in the advert?

We so do not need a thread about this.

But yes, it looks even more awful than the previous two, if such a thing is possible.

A saw a snippet of the stars talking to the media during the movie's release somewhere, and if the movie is half as dumb as them, we may be talking Uwe Boll-stuff here.

I saw a trailer for a Chinese movie about drift racing while watching a DVD a while back. They appear to be years ahead of us in the field of making movies about drifting. We need to close the drifting gap, immediately. Why are we spending money on space shuttles when our astronauts could be drifting?

Here's my dilemma. This movie will probably suck, but I think drifting is pretty darn awesome (Initial D anyone?) so I sort of want to see it.

From what I gather, the scriptwriters discovered a new word (drift), and decided to make a movie about it. As if it's something only done by super-professional racers in Tokyo, and no one in America knows about it.

I agree with this move. Though, I say that about most movies nowadays, since the entertainment value rarely outweighs the cost.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person (out of 3000!) on this board that can just watch a movie and not be so critical of it. I know you were being good natured QS, but this board can be so overly critical on 'popcorn' movies. Every movie does not have to be oscar worthy or make you cry or be LotR.

Man, I'm a huge fan of Split Second, which surely makes me a target in someone's book. But this is a movie about cars sliding sideways. Sliding sideways! A whole movie!

That last one would only be incredulous if the bridge was made of plastic.

The drifting movie from China I saw advertised had it set in Hong Kong, which look hilly and involved the cars spinning around these hairpin turns. I've never been to Tokyo, but in the Godzilla movies I've seen it looked pretty flat. And the buildings looked pretty flimsy. Almost like they were made out of cardboard and glue.

Boobies + riceboys + ripoff of the last 20 min. of Bullet in the Head = ?

edit: I guess (invoking Chandler) in Tokyo they'd just call them "boys," and their cars "rockets."

No, it's not just the Godzilla movies, if Kaiju Big Battel is to be believed.
