For anyone buying a DS LITE this week... a FREE game!
Sunday, June 11th, 2006 - 1:37pm
Both BEST BUY and CIRCUIT CITY are giving away a FREE copy of the DS game BRAIN AGE to anyone who buys a new DS LITE system this week.
Here's the BEST BUY coupon
And here's the Circuit City one.
I used this at BB this morning with no problems. Only thing was, they had all their DS LITEs hidding under a table! I almost left because I didn't see any on the shelf... I had to actually ask the guy if they had any, and he then went digging.
Good luck.

Snagged! I'm leaving right now.

Ditto. Thanks!
Edit: Stupid "While Supplies Last" coupon......
Nice, awesome deal! Our Canadian Best Buy is offering the same thing the Future Shop is, $15 bucks off any purchase over $150. The DS Lite is $149.99 so I bought some Mentos too
Unfortunately, mine has a dead pixel right in the middle of the bottom screen, I'm going to exchange it because it will drive me crazy.
Yeah, it's scary. I'm staring into the abyss right now, and it's staring into me, which I think is kind of a dick move on the abyss's part. - Nyles
just don't eat them while drinking diet coke...
Damn! I thought that was a PSP only problem... I haven't turned my DS Lite on yet because I'm letting the battery charge... I will just have to hope for the best.

I was at my local BestBuy this morning when it opened and snagged a DS Lite, New SMB, and Brain Age (free w/ the coupon). I'm excited and ready to play, but I'm waiting for the battery to charge. I will definately be disappointed if there are dead pixel problems. I better go dig my extraneous packaging out of the trash just in case.

Future Shop took my return, no problem. I'm good now

Two here. No dead pixels. I have to say, this is a real "turn on and play" system. The PSP is shiney and nice and if you breathe near it, something will scratch or shatter. It takes several minutes to get it out, load the game, untangle the earphones, plug them in, position the unit, then turn it on and wait for the game load. The DS Lite is a clamshell - I think it'd be safe in my pocket. Open it, slot the game in, turn it on. It's booted in seconds. Pick the game or app you want, and you are playing in seconds. Probably under a minute overall.
Sure, the PSP has fantastic sound and gorgeous graphics. But Nintendo, they know gameplay. Easy, fun, fast. I like both, but I'm surprised at how pleased I am with a simple, well-engineered device.
Wii is soooo going to rock.

I picked up mine from EB today (wish I haden't), took it out the box and started playing it immediately. As far as I know, the battery comes pre-charged as Li-on batteries don't lose charge at a fast enough rate.

Yeah I got mine at EB today too. It was the usual EB experience. I walk in and see 4 teens in line with sagged shoulders trading games in for no money. Then they gave me sh*t for not having brought trade-ins myself - "where's your ds, man?". Then they made sad noises as I declined the warranty.
I'm going to go to my local shop to pick up Trauma Center in a few minutes.

well, it was maybe half charged out of the box. I plugged mine in immediately and it took a good hour or more to get to a full charge (it says 3 hours from 0 to full, in the manual).
I had one wonky pixel... it was showing bright blue on a black field. Man, I was pissed... but I "massaged" the screen and it seems to be fixed now. Believe me, I will take it back if it happens again.
As for the DS vs. PSP thing... bah. Both are fine for what they do. Obviously a cart based system is going to launch faster, but if you have the PSP in sleep mode, is starts instantly. Same thing with the DS.

btw, I agree with KaterinLHC that Brain Age is pretty silly. I felt like a tool counting out loud to 120.
Still, it said my "brain age" was 34, and since I just turned 35 a few weeks ago, I think that's pretty close to average.

Mine played great, after minimal charging. No pixel problems here. I got Brain Age and Feel the Magic, two very minigame based titles, so I'm just putzing around with it so far. I'll have to go out and pick up the New SMB, and check old threads for the best DS games out. Trauma and Phoenix Wright, Attorney at Law sound like the best ones so far.

Just a note for anyone who doesn't want Brain Age when you get it from BB or Circuit City. Target and Wal-Mart take exchanges for gift items without a receipt so just take it to one of those stores and get a game you really want $20 off.
My brain is aged enough by everyday life. If they were giving it away with Metroid (even a Metroid GBA game like Zero Mission) or Super Mario Bros, or Space Invaders, or Phoenix Wright, that would count as a good deal. As it stands though, they're just getting rid of excessive stock of the game that was selling poorly already.
EDIT:
Now that sounds better.
Don't go back to the store. Call Nintendo. They will send out a refurbished and retested DS with no dead pixels to you (not brand new technically but looks and behaves like it is). It will arrive with a box. When it arrives, you put your current DS into the box and mail it in.
