DS Lite street date broken?

I'm not sure how much of this is a Net rumor spiraling out of control or if its actually real but supposedly there are Target, K-Mart and Walmart stores breaking the streetdate on the Nintendo DS Lite and selling them today. Again, I'm not sure the validity of this as neither Target store in my area had them for sale. YMMV.

Wow... I figured this thread would've been hot, hot, hot... Has anyone had any luck calling around to see if DS Lites are actually being sold? I called 4 Targets and 2 Walmarts with no luck.

I checked both Targets in my area at lunch and they said that they did have them in stock, but they were not putting them out until 6/11. It seemed like I wasn't the first to ask about the system that morning.

Went to Fry's, Best Buy, and Target at lunch...no DS lites, everyone said they'll have them on the 11th. Actually, the Fry's guy told me that they had DS lites in aisle 12, where I found a wall full of led flashlights.

I actually went to Wal-Mart (got nothing) and was going to go to Target, but I figured... what is the point? I paid $25 to Gamestop already, so why not just wait 10 more days? Am I such a freak I can't wait that long? I don't even have any games yet

Probably someone in one of those chain stores wrote a memo along the lines of "...and remamber, asociates are NOT allowed to sell the DS Light until 6/1/06. That is a frim date!" Then they told a friend, who told a friend, who posted it on MySpace...

Mine is on preorder at Gamestop, and they don't appear to care whether the streetdate is broken or not. Oh well. I'd love to get my hands on one today if I could.

Ok...got mine today at Sears.
Ordered online with a "Pickup from store" option (The site told me which ones had them in stock). Within an hour, I got the "Ready for pickup" message.
I *still* didn't believe that they were selling them, but I picked it up with no problems. There were 4-5 other folks coming in to get theirs too. They laughed when they saw me walking out with mine. What a bunch of nerds:)
Called EB down the street..they are still sticking to the 11th release date.

I tried a few Wal-Marts, K-Marts, and Targets a little west of Chicago and while they all had the Lites in the cases, they would not ring up. "Before sale date".
I got to see some particularly offensive performances by mothers and their children trying to lie their way into having the clerk manually enter the price. It was pretty disgusting.

Seems dumb to put out something they wont sell for another week. Sounds like confusion was pretty widespread but 'corporate' put the foot down and said 'do not sell'

If anyone's looking to trade in their DS on a DS Lite, check out Game Haven if you have one closeby; they offered me $80 for the DS (which I took and put it toward a pre-order on the DS Lite), whereas EB offered a pitiful $50 and GameCrazy and even more pitiful $48. The manager at GameCrazy did say that they would have the DS Lite available on the 7th, though... Hmm...
