Move(d) to NC. *edited*

So, can any of the NC contingent give me a heads up on a good site or three that I could find some good prospects on house rentals? I have been searching for the past couple of months with no real solid leads.
I am searching for house rentals and not apartments nor townhouses, any help is greatly appreciated.

The first question would be: "Where in NC?", it's not really as small as Rhode Island... Over in the west near Asheville? South near Charlotte? Near the Research Triangle?

Actually, we are looking for places in the Cary, Apex, Raleigh, and Durham areas at the moment.

If you are looking in Durham, stay away from the areas near NC 147 and NC 55. Alston Ave, Briggs Ave, southeastern Durham. There are some rather... scary.. neighborhoods down that way.
Where is your new job? If it's in RTP, you might also wish to consider outlaying Morrisville, or Fuquay Varina (which is out where Dragonfly and I are).

First off, thanks for the heads up on the "scarier" parts of the area. I have lived in a couple of places when I was single that even when I was just out of the military I didn't feel all that safe in.
Job wise though, I am not quite so concerned at the moment since I will be finishing up my computer animation degree and just working part time doing the bartending thing.

How much room are you looking for? I actually have a friend who rents a few houses, though I don't know if he's got anything available right now.
Further, if you do find something you like, lemme know where it is (via PM, or whatever), and I (or Quintin, or Coldforged) can probably give you the rundown on the area. Dragonfly's sister's husband is a Raleigh cop, so I may be able to give you a 'full report', depending on the area.

I appreciate it. We will most definitely have to get a slap an tickle together for the NC GWJ'ers, seeing as how it has the highest percentage of people located in one state.

So, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help with this particular issue HOWEVER I will help organize a GWJ NC Slap & Tickle once you arrive.
P.S. The downside is that I will call you "T-Bag", as per the "Goojer Picture" thread.

It would be nice to have more GWJers in the area. This way I can not feel as bad about passing up 5 hour drives to get slapped and tickled.
Though, you would think I could get that locally for a price. But no.

Ah, the knee surgery went okay, but I may have to under the knife again before too long.
No problemo, how big are you by the way?

Yeah, I have checked on some of the pricing, I have found some in that range starting around $900 then up into the stratosphere.

East Durham is not good, but there are areas in south Durham where I live that are pretty good, and reasonably priced. Look around in the Woodcroft/Copper Creek areas and around Southpoint Mall off Fayetteville Road. Also, the area around NC State in west Raleigh is ... ok if you can tolerate lots of college-type people around all the time. Those are the only areas I've lived.
The advantage of south Durham is that you are practically on top of RTP - I've biked and walked to work for the last four years.

If Cary prices scare you, I'd recommend looking in Apex and Morrisville. These are the places still expanding, so the prices haven't gone insane quite yet.

There are some nice developments in those areas... though I had a former coworker tell me that his girlfriend's car was regularly broken into while she lived at an apartment complex near Woodcroft. I suppose it's a matter of hit and miss (caveat: this was over 4+ years ago).

Here's a couple of links I found. I cannot vouch for them.

I'm not sure that's an apples to apples comparison, but I understand your point.
God help you if you live near Preston. I swear, they seem to add pretentiousness to the water supply in that community. Not to say everyone who lives there is a snob, but my personal experiences (and my fiances') sure would indicate to me that the percentage was a high one!

The only difference is who is doing the stealing.
It's not really apples to apples, just was making the point that Cary isn't a bastion of peace and comfort due to their invasive and pervasive desire for control, which you have apparently experienced as well.

Well, looks like we are going to be moving into a 4 bedroom house (with an inground pool
), in Sanford, NC, just south of Cary, Raleigh, et al in the "Triangle", close enough to come in and do stuff, but far enough out where our payments are a LOT more reasonable.
Give me a few months to get everything situated and I will be up for a 'Slap and tickle'. I think we might be able to convince Edwin to come up from Florida.

Glad to hear it, and if you need advice on the area, let us know. What part of Apex are you in now (if you don't mind my asking)?
