WoW strat guides - worth buying?
Sunday, May 21st, 2006 - 11:19pm
Continuing my line of WoW "n00b" posts...
Are any of the WoW strat guides (the Atlas, the Brady guide, etc) worth getting?
I would imagine a good guide would be very helpful and convenient. Alt-Tab'ing out of the 3D game and into Firefox and going to Thottbot isn't exactly snappy.

I can't imagine a guide having anything that you can't find on the net or ask someone experienced. The game has been out for more then a year.

I agree with KarmaJay. To add to that I would say that things can often change quickly in the game (in terms of abilities, drops, etc.), which would quickly render a printed guide useless.

I really liked the BradyGames guide, and it's nice to have a physical guide, but even at printing it was out of date somewhat. The maps are nice, as are the guides to the starting areas up to level 10 or so.
But yeah, so much has changed that using the class guides would be almost pointless. Oh, and the Penny Arcade toons are great. "It's an Axe Cozy!"

Legion, PM me an address and I'll send you this guide for the cost of shipping.

Wow patches are frequent enough and tend to have quite large impacts on gameplay, both with regards to tactics (talent and skill revamps) as well as the overall game world (e.g. changing or addition of new quests, instances, flight paths, items).
As a result any hardcopy guide will turn increasingly out of date as time moves on. Much of the information will still hold true of course, but I found alt-tabbing to thottbot or allakhazam more reliable, as well as various other more specific guides. Even the official forums tend to hold a wealth of information, particularly in the stickies. It helps if you have a high tolerance for troll and nutjob posts there though.
I would say to switch into playing WoW windowed for a bit. You don't get the craziness of tabbing out and it plays very nicely with clicking over to other windows for strategy sites.
