May 8th - 13th
Ah, May is here, and so a time for men to be boys and women to pretend they aren't married to those boy-men. To quote a very learned and freakishly suave man, namely Sway, in regards to E3, "If big were blue, it would be very very blue." While Bill Harris is entirely accurate in his criticism, saying that E3 is the worst place to cover E3, I also believe that if you are true to your voice and give your readers an accurate and unflinching impression that cuts through the big announcements and cheerleading common among sites beholden to tidal advertising forces, then you can cover the show in a unique and valuable way. That is what we seek to do.
If, however, I were not going to E3, I would abuse as many hours as possible with the much anticipated Rise of Legends which hits the PC market this week. I find it lamentable that I will not be able to give this game the attention it deserves until my return.
The darker of the two faces of Steven Spielberg hits the DVD shelves this week with Munich. Nothing else of particular note among the DVD releases, which frees up your time to debate the relative sexiness of the GWJ staff while waiting for our impressions of the big show.

I'm curious how RoL will run, after hearing all the rumours about the abysmal framerates with the demo level. Not that I'll be able to run it smoothly anyways

The first demo was very old code, not optimized at all. The second demo should give you a much better idea of how it will run, which is to say, smooth as butter.
My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.

The demo was running old code. A newer demo was released about a week or so back and it ran fantastic. Check out the RoL thread we have going for more info.

Tringo is a combination of Tetris and Bingo that was initially implemented as a site attraction in the Second Life MMO. In my brief visit to Second Life, I tried out Tringo and was fairly impressed. I can't see how the Bingo aspect will survive the transition from an online platform to the GBA.
Edit: On second thought, the bingo portion makes the game interesting in Second Life because it adds a gambling element. However, the Tetris-puzzle-variant should work fine on its own in a single player environment.
In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx
I have an 80 gift card waiting to be spent.
I need to check this demo out tonight.

Oh there's another demo? How did I miss that? :-$
I'll be sure to give it a whirl this weekend, when I have access to my not-as-surdated-as-dorm-laptop pc

I ran the game on my wife's computer, an Athlon XP 2400+, 1 gig of RAM and a Raedon 9800 128m AGP card, and at the lowest settings the game ran super smooth. Surprisingly, even at the lowest settings, the graphics are stunning. At high settings, they are just plain intimidating.
Sadly, it is May 9th and I cannot find the game in stores. The lady at Fry's said it will be out tomorrow. sh*t.

I played the first demo and fell IN LOVE with the graphics, especially the elder glass dragon. Then I heard there was a second demo out, on that let you sample the mysterious thrid race, the Cuotl. So, I downloaded it and prepared to be blown away!
Only, I wasn't blown away. I was disappointed. Apparently, my computer's PCI card lacks AGP texturizing and that causes the whole bloody game to be rendered in half-hearted polygons. I don't get the pretty, swirling buildings or sandstorms any more. It's ugly. I used to play the demo several times a day. Now I won't touch it.
Whatever they did, I wish they had changed it back. It's just awful.
