Lobster, this is brilliant. Who wants to set up the fund collection system?
I will.
On a more serious note... I was actually thinking if a bunch of us could scrape together enough money to buy the damn thing, we could put a server farm in there and sell data storage to companies big and paranoid enough to want their data protected against nuclear attack. The place is big enough for a few dozen people to live... and that kind of business would bring in enough money for a few dozen people to make it their career.
You'd be better off getting a business plan together and seeing if you could secure some VC or a business loan. The bidding is over $600K now. That's quite a bit to scratch together.
Oh, and the reserve isn't met on the auction either. This guy might want over a million for the thing. Says there's about 57 acres of land too. So, when the ultimate Goodjer LAN assembly is completed, you can shun a rather large protion of the great outdoors...
What's the connectivity to the site? That would be an issue if you're going to use it as a data store. If you're going to do it the old fashioned way (running disks there in trucks), you've already got an established competitor in Iron Mountain.

Heh. I know a guy in Latvia who has data storage company and their servers are actually located in nuclear shelter. They pimped the "the safest place around" to all the big corporate clients and are now the biggest data storage company in country. I guess there`s something very comforting in the idea of nuclear shelter.

I can definitely see this coming in handy as part of the Zombie Defense Initiative. Unfortunately, once you pay for it, you still have to (A) pay the property tax every year and (B) defend against graffiti artists as illustrated in the pics on the sales listing. And that's not even powering the place up.
We'd need to start a GWJ Zombie Defense Fund, or rent it out as a Data Storage/Bed and Breakfast.
Math is not my forte but: $1,000,000 / 300goodjers = $3,333USD per goodjer. Now, if I could somehow freeze my body in that facility after I died so I could be re-animated and cured in AD2136 then I'd go for it.

The problem with making it a data haven is that it is not all that useful unless you are outside the jurisdiction of regulatory agencies. An offshore datahaven (eg: Sealand) or datahaven in a poorly regulated environment (eg: Afghani datacenter) would be a far better place to conduct that sort of business. That way, you can facillitate the electronic transfer of assets between shady characters without the threat of incarceration (for a healthy fee, of course).
Now, if someone could find some nice Uzbek military base with good connectivity, that might be worthy of a Gwjrati investment.

Yeah, but if I flew to Latvia and put my 5GB jump drive in a bank vault, THAT would be the biggest, safest data storage company in the country.
And yes, it shall be named Vault 13. And the incoming nuclear strike warning sirens will be replaced with "Maybe" by The Inkspots.

This is too expensive, we have many other options. Never thought that there are so many of these things on sale...
Seriously, the cost of these things is just too much. Esp. considering the maintenance costs. Not to mention the large amount of arsenal that one will need to defend such place from crazed people when apocalypse arrive. Then there is food cost. But I am in on pooling the money for this anyway!
