If so I have a very important setup question. I haven't heard many people mention it so I thought I'd check first

My answer is no, but I have my 360 set up as an Extender for XPMCE. The quality of the video was disappointing, though, even though both computer and 360 were had wired connections to my wireless router. So I ended up keeping my Media Center PC connected to the TV itself.

Would be a good idea. I plan to have Logan sit in for me when I am on my honeymoon.

I have several friends running this setup, so I might be able to get some help for you. I'm currently using my 360 as my extender.

I seem to remember Dramatic Marlin having a few of these. Don't know what he thought of them, though.

I have two original Xboxes as WMC Extenders and they work fine. SDTV only and they don't have the added nice touches of the 360 Extender, but they work. I loaded the extender (50MB) onto the HD and used the softmod to make the WMC Extender software load on power up (instead of the Xbox dashboard).

They're overpriced for what they are -- largely due to the remote and the IR dongle, but no complaints otherwise.

We got one at my former company for video streaming tests. I'd say anyone who is willing to shell out that much money, should consider getting the usual remote and mod his xbox, in order to use xbox media center. You'd have a far more versatile and capable solution with that setup.

Perhaps this isn't the right place to ask, but I'm guessing that the only way to get music from my PC onto my 360 is to install Windows XP Media Center Edition on it? Or is that just if I want streaming?

I am a media center newbie.

In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx

Music - nope. Videos and stuff, yeah. Go into your 360 menu and select music until it tells you a code, then go to here and it will setup a little application that shares your music.

It's a trick. Get an axe.

I actually prefer the Xbox 360s built in native interface for music (the one you can use while playing games) then using the music option in the media center area. For some reason the media center area takes much longer to flip through and index all the songs. I am using a wireless connection.

I also believe you can stream pictures without Windows Media Center.

Like Swat mentioned, If you don't need video there is no need to install Windows Media Center.

Apple users have a way to get iTunes and iPhoto onto the 360, so I'm sure there is a non-damaging app out there to get Windows iTunes libraries on the 360, too.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
