Ghost Recon:AW - PC Version (Patch Out)
Monday, April 24th, 2006 - 11:43am
So am I the only one planning on picking this up for the PC?
Frankly, I do not see 360 users picking this title up twice given how good it is on the 360.

I'm curious to see how the first person view and keyboard/mouse twitch works, but I've already way overbudget on games since the beginning of March (this has probably been the most expensive 2 month stretch.. ever!)
I haven't been following it much. Are the levels bigger and more open ended?

Looks there are some tasty differences including larger maps. clicky

Seeing as I loathe FPS games on consoles, I'll only be buying it on the PC.
Variable -> Veeble -> vbl
"Nice boys, guys." - Swampy
Since I can't play it on the 360 without it freezing about once every hour I might be getting this for the PC. Especially if there's some other GWJ'ers to run co-op with.
Definitely picking this up - I sent the 360 version back to Gamerang because of this one.
I'm also picking up a PhysX card to get all the goodies.
Blackhand - Asyda (65 mage), Risquei (60 rogue)
Baelgun - Asyia (69 priest) Zhazha (60 druid)
Count me as one of those picking this up for the PC.

I'll be waiting for the demo, its an untested developer and all the trailers (including the gold trailer that just came out) are running at like 10 fps. It is kind of scary when you can't even get a promotional trailer to run at a decent framerate.
My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.
Whoa!

Do you really think UBIsoft is worse than EA?

If I remember correctly the PC version also supports that new Physics processor and from the demo sequence that I saw, the result is pretty nice looking. Though not nice enough to drop another $300 my PC though...
Decisions are just decisions, there are neither "good" or "bad"

I wonder if the friendly AI will be less craptastic than the 360 version. And if the missions will be less hollywood and more real-world.

Well, considering that you can set up way points for individual soldier like in GR1 for PC... I think that is already better than Xbox 360 version.

I'll wait for the demo to see if my rig can handle it - I have an Athlon 2600+, GeForce 6600GT, and 1gb RAM. I can run FEAR and Quake 4 very well so hopefully GRAW will run nicely too.
If I were a bad demoman, I wouldn't be sitting here dicussing it with you, now would I?

I'm leaning toward it but I'll wait for the reviews and then decide.

I'm just waiting for the demo to see if it runs on my system. If it does, then I'm getting it.
I'm in. Maybe a new WCGN game?

That'd work for me.

The demo is out (link to Blue's story). The thing is pretty hefty (540 MB or so)
Can anyone confirm that the coop on the demo is not just over LAN, but internet as well?

Fileplanet says this, so i'm afraid not: "You can play this mission in single player or with 3 other partners in coop by LAN."
I can't believe that the day has come where the minimum configuration for a game is a gig of ram.

The internet rumor mill suggests this demo runs like garbage on even the best of hardware if you don't have that new Physx card.
I'm downloading now, so we'll see.
*edit*
As usual, the internet rumor mill is absolutely idiotic. If you don't install the Physx drivers then the game physics don't work, and the game is essentially broken. This is whether you have the special add-on card or not.
Just something to remember when it asks you what you want to install when you get the demo.

F*cking sweet, thanks for the heads up. I am definitely interested in this one, especially now that StarForce is out of the picture.

Good God, Mateo. I thought you were dead.
Next, Sanjuro's going to make a forum appearance.
Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy - both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.

I haven't had a chance to play the demo for very long but my first impression is that it looks ok and plays ok. On the positive side I like being able to customize the weapons, the environment seems really large and the tactical map makes a welcome return to the series. On the negative side the combat doesn't have a very solid feel to it, reminds me more of Battlefield (which for infantry combat is not a good thing) than Ghost Recon. As for the physics, without the add-on card they seem fine but nothing that Havok can't do without having to install special drivers.
Edited out some foolish remarks about the textures: I accidently bumped them down to the low setting, heh.
Further impressions: Better than I was expecting, actually. AI seems competant enough, my teammates haven't gotten themselves killed yet (unlike me) and they seem to be pretty good shots also. The map really is pretty expansive, which is nice.

This is going to sound odd, but I'm both sold on the game and still unimpressed.
Visually, it doesn't compare to the 360. This is (I think) mostly because the demo doesn't seem to have a texture quality choice beyond medium. This is on an Athlon64 4000+ with 2GB of overclocked DDR and SLI 7800GT's. There's no reason for it to be limiting my settings, if that's what it's doing.
Aiming feels almost like Rainbow Six 3, but with more recoil. You have to pick your shots more carefully, and it's harder to get back on target if you fire a lot and end up aiming off somewhere else.
It could be fun to go with this as a sort-of-return to the Raven Shield nights from a while back.

Checked everything.
It also lacks any kind of anti-alaising settings, and it seems to ignore my attempts to force it on in the video driver settings.

Texture quality is capped at medium in the demo to reduce the download size.
