Spellforce 2 Demo Uses Starforce

Double damn.
Initial reviews of this are positive. THe reviews mention lots of references to the developer fixing all the issues with the first game. It looks fantastic and the rts/rpg hybrid gameplay has always sounded intriguing to me. Anyone know if the retail version has fallen to the dark side of the force?

If it has, then I went from planning to pick this up, to writing a letter to the developer telling them I am not buying a game with Starforce on it.

The scary thing is I probably would not have known the demo had it if it had not prompted me before install. To which my excited smile became a heart sinking frown as I didnt wait a half second to click "no".

Demo has it, full version doesn't, at least not in NA.
My days of not taking you seriously have certainly come to a middle.

Yeah, they even did a press release about dropping Starforce in the retail version.

Crap, that's right. You'll have to forgive me. I don't really follow this "game industry" or whatever the hell you freaks call it.

I've read a test of Spellforce 2 in one of our gaming magazines here in Germany and its rated 91%. (90+ is not often in that magazin, only Oblivion, WoW, Warcraft3 and Civ4 have 90-92). What i read its really great, better story, better graphics and better gameplay than Spellforce 1.
I did not play the demo because of Starforce. And i really despise them because they use Starforce here in Europe but not in North America. Seems if i want to play i have to get an import version... but im really not sure if i should give them my money that way. I'm actually thinking it would be cool to get a pirated version, just to show them
Regarding the demo. Their representatives said its not a full starforce-deployment in the demo, only the .exe is protected against reengineering. So the problematic parts of Starforce, those meddling around with your CD+DVD-Drives are not implemented.... so they say...

You know, between Oblivion, Gothic 3, and this, I'm starting to feel the beginnings of a fantasy overload creeping up.
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
Don't forget Titan Quest and Heroes of Might and Magic.
And after 2ish years of a RPG drought, how can you complain?

I've been running two P&P campaigns for the whole of that time. Can't say I noticed much of a drought
Seriously, it's great to see a revived interest in RPGs, but some more variied settings would be nice. I'll give you Titan Quest there.

All the devs have to do is give us the next iteration of Starcraft or XCom, then we will be all set to be deluged with more fantasy products.
I, on the other hand, cannot be inundated with too much of the fantasy genre, just isn't in my genetic makeup.

This is coming from people that've downloaded the game illegally, so it is uncertain if it's the US or Euro version. If this sort of thing concerns you, you might want to wait until somebody gets a US retail box, cracks it open and reports.
Yeah the European publisher Jowood is still using starforce. So just be wary of jowood games. As for the NA release it will be a CP called Tages, which I am doing research on right now since I do have the game coming my way soon...

Becareful Elysium, any mentioning of Starforce can be cracked can result in a visit from the Mafias across the sea...

I have never dealt with Starforce, and based on everything I have read about it I don't think I'm about to ever bother.
I was looking forward to Spellforce 2, so I'm hoping they're smart enough to leave that chrapola out of it.

While I'm not absolutely certain on this, I believe the score is thus far:
