Any runners here?
Thursday, March 30th, 2006 - 3:06pm
Spring race season is in full bloom with the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler on Sunday. Looks like April is going to be an active month for me with Clyde's, Pike's Peek, and two club runs before the end of the month as well (not to mention the Broad Street 10 miler in Philly in May).
Anyone else running?

Only when I required to in my gym class... which is all the time sadly. Oh well, the running keeps me semi in shape, but it wrecks havoc to my right knee after awhile
Yet even then we ran like the wind,

I hear that sort of thing a lot, but is it really rational to think you wouldn't get shot on a bike if you were to get shot while running? Plus, violent crime rates are lower now than any time after 1972.
I run about 30-35 miles/week.

I was going to start running again this week because its finally gotten nice again, but alas I pulled both quad's last week playing soccer. So now I can't even walk long distances much less run

I used to speedskate when I lived in NYC. Gave up and only do it recreationally now that I am living in NJ due to lack of suitable trails.

I used to run, mainly as a way to crosstrain for mountain biking when I didn't have time to get to the trail. I'm still gimped from a heel stress fracture I got in November while skating so I think I'm done with running.

I ran when I was a kid. At the moment I'm training for a 200 mile walk (ancient pilgrimage, actually) through northern Spain this summer. It will be an entirely different kind of endurance for me. Info here: http://www.santiago-compostela.net/

I just got back from an 8.5 mile run an hour ago as a matter of fact. So, yes, I run. Good luck with the Cherry Blossom Race this weekend. I used to race a lot and after a few years off, I'm getting back into it. Mostly mountain bike duathlons and stuff these days. I'll never be as fast as I used to be (ran Div I track in college) but I've come to accept it and just look for longer races to enter.
Like this one: http://www.mountainstosound.com/ I'll be soloing it in June and I cannot wait!
Not only do I run all the time, but my boss makes me run. Hooah...

After a year hiatus, I'm slowly breaking myself back into running. I ran a half-marathon awhile ago, and it somewhat screwed up my tendons, so I took some time off (and, as it always does, 'some time' turned into 'lots of time'). I'm trying to get back in the game, but I doubt I'm going to be up to such high mileage anytime soon.

Personally I don't like running, seems to me it wrecks your joints. But some people have the right genetics for it, and they do it well into their 60s without much problems.
I'm more into the bodybuilding side of fitness (yeah yeah I'm vain), but I admire people who run a marathon. That's something I'd never want to do.

It's not that hard, Mex. Even Oprah "ran" a marathon.
Racing a marathon is a different story altogether.

I don't call run cadences that often... but I do so love them.

Marathons are fun, but I don't run distance fast enough to feel good about the times I post. I'm sort of concentrating on middle distance right now (10k's, 10 milers, and half marathons). I hope to do another marathon and an ultra near the end of the season though.

Been running 6 days a week for 2 weeks now. I'm up to about 5-6 miles/week. Its very relaxing and fun, I guess, if my mp3 player wouldn't flake out on me. Oh well it was free.

I run, but more recreationally than in any sort of regimen right now. I'd like to do a Marathon in late summer/early fall this year, but I haven't run over 10 miles yet, so I've got to buckle down soon if I want to have enough time to get ready.
I can't run, my knees start to seize up and get really stiff after an hour or so of ultimate frisbee, let alone straight running. I guess it's from all the hockey. I skate as much as I can, tho.

I find that both hockey and ultimate frisbee are harder on my knees than running. All that lateral movement puts a lot of stress on the joint.
Anyone know any good running routes around Silver Spring? I have an hour or so for lunch today.

Lately I decided to incorporate some roadwork into my kid's Taekwondo training for better stamina, and started jogging with him for 1 mile, bringing it to to 2 miles this week and then throwing in intervals. Anyone knows fun (but age-appropriate) military running cadences that I could use to spice it up?

I used to run for Cross Country/Track in high school. Nowadays I don't get out more than once per week, so it's mostly to get the blood flowing, and usually for no more than 2-3 miles. I have no designs of signing up for any races or runs.
