What would songs would you include in Guitar Hero 2?
In honor of Valhalla finally getting a new Guitar Hero controller, and the bitchingness of this game, I'd like to pretend my opinion matters and offer up what I think would be some rockin' songs to put in a Guitar Hero sequel. What songs would you add?
Derek and the Dominos: Layla
Dire Straits: Romeo & Juliet or Money for Nothing
Dream Theater: Fatal Tradgedy or Overture to Scenes From a Memory
Coheed & Cambria: Time Consumer
Rush: Dreamline or Overture to 2112
Pearl Jam: Daughter, Jeremy
Green Day: American Idiot
Led Zeppelin: You mean besides Stairway to Heaven? Maybe Black Dog or Whole Lotta Love
ACDC: Shook me all night long
Bon Jovi (yeah, I said Bon Jovi): Livin' on a Prayer
Guns & Roses: Welcome to the Jungle
Iron Maiden: Run to the Hills
Aerosmith: Dude Looks Like a Lady
KISS: God Gave Rock and Roll To You. Bonus if Bill & Ted are animated into the audience ![]()
Van Halen: Wow, what to choose from? Maybe Right Now?
Stone Temple Pilots: Core or Big Empty
Also, more Megadeath, Franz Ferdinand, Freezepop, and Ozzy would be welcome. So what would you add to the list?
"Today's Tom Sawyer, he gets high on you, Kat. You." - Haakon7

Kasabian - L.S.F.
AC/DC - Every album up to "Back in Black"
The Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar, Satisfaction
Metallica - Sad But True, One (Like you wouldn't love to try and do that last Guitar Solo. You'd die trying).
Jimi Hendrix - Take your choice. Any would be good.
Black Flag - Rise Above
Bad Brains - I against I.
Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name (Although, frankly, the only way to imitate Tom Morello is to be Tom Morello).
And since we do something ridiculous, how about John Mellencamp? "Jack and Jane"! Wahey!
Just no Fall Out Boy. Please. Pretty please.

Here's hoping this thread continues on your honorable start and doesn't degenerate into who likes what band and who doesn't and why.
Also: In my head I imagine a wonderful Xbox360 version of this game with new tracks being made available for download over Xbox Live. The missed potential makes me sad since such a thing isn't likely... if even possible. Anybody know if the studio that made Guitar Hero is owned by Sony or not? Wouldn't surprise me. Anywho, on with the track listings!
Metallica: Fade to Black, Master of Puppets
Audioslave: Show Me How to Live, Shadow on the Sun
Nirvana: About A Girl
Pearl Jam: Jeremy (I know you said it, but it's an awesome suggestion!)
The Pixies: Where Is My mind
Queens of the Stone Age: Go With The Flow
Tom Petty: Runnin' Down a Dream
AFI: Girl's Not Grey
Alkaline Trio: Private Eye
A Perfect Circle: The Outsider
And I'm sure I could come up with more if I gave it more thought, but I'm done for the moment
Also: since someone brought up wanting to attempt murdering your hands trying tough sections of guitar work, how about Metallica's cover of Astronomy? The last minute of that song would end the use of my fingers for days.

Harmonix is not owned by Sony, and they have said they are considering a xbox version very seriously.

I can't believe I forgot Metallica and Tom Petty! You can't have rock without Metallica, and I love Tom Petty. Runnin' Down a Dream is a good pick, although American Girl might be good too.
Also, Astronomy is teh best-oh Blue Oyster Cult song evar.

Nice selection Kat! Money for nothin' sure is a must. That intro riff is bitchin' (I'm playing it with my mouth as I type this. My Wah is spot on!)
Xbox Live: MrGreen
PSN: MrGreenPSN
Wii: 4859 2... oh f*ck it.
I would laugh my ass off if they put some Meshuggah in there.
Xbox Live: CrankyBaby
baggachipz: Who cares about Japan, let them have their silly pointless dog games and countless re-hashes of anime-based dragon princess super lucky crapitty crap.
Damn most of the ones I had thought of are taken. I heard Money for Nothin' a few days ago and the moment it kicked into that intro I ached to slap that baby out on my pretend guitar. A few others off the top of my head (sticking to songs I think would work in this mode):
While My Guitar Gently Weeps; Revolution - Beatles
Hey You - Pink Floyd
*One I really want* Twice as Hard - Black Crowes
Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing - Chris Isaak
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet (Yes, it's an overdone song, but I think it'd be fun to play)
American Woman, Are You Gonna Go My Way - Lenny Kravitz (yes, Kravitz version of AW, and damn you if you disagree)
- Elysium
You mean the Van Halen song with the least amount of guitar? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
No, Unchained is where it's at. Or Panama. Something like that.
Iron Maiden is a must. "Hills" is probably a sound choice, but I would kill for "Hallowed Be Thy Name" or "Children of the Damned"
Some other ideas:
Black Sabbath: SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH
Heart: Barracuda
King Crimson: Red
Cream: White Room, or Tales of Brave Ulysses
Jimi Hendrix: All Along the Watchtower, definitely. If not that, Voodoo Chile or Little Wing
Led Zeppelin: Immigrant Song
Santana: Black Magic Woman / Gypsy Queen (though there's very little of classic Santana I would argue against, just none of that recent alt-rock guest star stuff)
The Who: anything. "Guitar Hero" without The Who is not legitimate!
Yes: Starship Trooper or Machine Messiah
My Bloody Valentine: Only Shallow
Mahavishnu Orchestra: absolutely anything!
Something from Funkadelic
Oh, and some modern rock throw-ins for the kids.
EDIT: Alice in Chains. Please.

I ordered this game this morning. It is nowhere to be found in this godforsaken town. The guy at Best Buy said people were waiting 30 minutes and more to play the demo before somebody talked the mgr into letting them buy it. Anyway, these were some of my thoughts after looking at the initial playlist.
Van Halen: I got no problem with Right Now, but it's too piano driven. Something like Eruption would be orgasmic. Or better yet, Hot For Teacher!
Boston: Let Me Take You Home Tonight
Rush: What's that one that goes "Invisible airwaves crackle with life(ight?)" That song would rock!
Blue Oyster Cult: I wish they'd done Don't Fear the Reaper rather than Godzilla. Needs More Cowbell!
AC/DC: Back In Black or Highway to Hell
The Kinks: Wild Thing or You Really Got Me
Journey... Naw, I'm kidding! (or maybe, Don't Stop Believin'?)
White Zombie: More Human than Human
GnR: Sweet Child o' Mine
I agree that American Girl by Petty would be absolute bliss! I read in an article somewhere (possibly linked from here) that Stairway turned out to be boring to play. Also with a lot of this stuff, they've already coded the songs, but they never got answers when they asked for the license. Let's hope that changes!

...they can also come bathe in the glorious, healing light of my Johnson. - Prederick
Hell yeah! And the problem with "Stairway" is that players would have to wait six minutes or so before they could start jamming.
Agree, but there should be bonus points for doing Hendrix songs left-handed.
F.O.B. is just more MTV bullsh*t, so much so that they'll be here and gone within the next year or so, just like that Sum 41/Nickelback sh*t from a few years back.
Doubly agreed, but I'd also add "Passive" by APC and half of the stuff from Nirvana and Audioslave.
And pencil me in for the collected works of Guns & Roses, Foghat (who the hell wouldn't want to try out "Slow Ride?"), and maybe a little bit from the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Modest Mouse. Also, who could forget such classics like:
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Give it Away
STP: Sex Type Thing
Foo Fighters: Monkey Wrench
Jet: Cold Hard Bitch
The Ramones: I Want to be Sedated
Survivor: Eye of the Tiger (Yes, I went there)
Hmmm?

Already in there. I should know, I've only played it about 467 times!
- Elysium
After playing the game at Fedaykin's over the holidays, not only did I get the LSD acid trip "screen moving all over the place" effect after watching and playing for too long in one sitting, I also got a mental image of the notes moving across the screen for every song I heard on the radio for a few days after that. And the best friggin songs to go into Guitar Hero 2 have to have loooong holding notes with plenty of time for WHAMMY BAR ACTION.
Wow... as I'm writing this, you all are already posting bunches of my picks. My comment on Stairway- while it may not work in GH as far as fun factor, I learned to play it IRL (from a Tenacious D tab first), and it is a blast to play on an acoustic (and makes me sound like I can actually play a LOT better than I really can
)
So my contribution to this thread is:
The Toadies - Possum Kingdom (or Away) perfect for the two player mode- one person does the rhythm guitar, while the other person gets to hold the long notes and go crazy with the whammy bar... heck, the original recordings have the L/R split stereo guitars going already!
Van Halen - Eruption/You Really Got Me
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
Johnny Cash - Boy Named Sue
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesday's Gone
John Lee Hooker - Boom Boom
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child and Little Wing
Radiohead - Creep
U2 - New Years Day or anything from the Joshua Tree
I'm getting Guitar Hero as soon as it comes to Xbox... i'm pretty close to getting a PS2, but not quite there yet, especially when there's a chance it's coming to Xbox....

Considering how this is one of my drunk games (which I am now, thank you), I should get a little slack if my memory's not so good.
As an afficiando of JLH, that's a pretty good suggestion for GH2. Way to think outside of the...er...box.

I know! What was I thinking? Totally should have gone with Panama.
That's "The Spirit of Radio", which I agree, would be a totally bitchin' song to include (especially since more people know that one than know Dreamline. But Dreamline's my favorite song, so that's why I picked it
)

I spent way too much time thinking about this
but I really wanted it to be a list of songs that I think would be fun and not just a favorites list. (not saying that prior lists fall into this category).
Ozzy - Crazy Train
Minor Threat - Think Again or Betray
AC/DC - High Voltage or Back in Black
Bad Brains - Sailin' On
Dead Boys - Sonic Reducer
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Metallica - Battery
Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor
Throwing Muses - Bright Yellow Gun (Kristin Hersh has to be one of the most under-appreciated guitarists of the last 20 years)
X - Universal Corner
PJ Harvey - Sheela-Na-Gig
Sonic Youth - Silver Rocket
Smashing Pumpkins - I am One
The Damned - Neat Neat Neat
Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights
Everclear - Heroin Girl
Stooges - Search and Destroy
I'm loving your selections so far...
Stone Temple Pilots - Wicked Garden, Interstate Love Song
Eric Clapton - Layla
Guns N Roses - November Rain (I'd just love to be able to play the ending solo)
Foo Fighters - Everlong (Greatest FF song, period), I second Monkey Wrench
U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Alice in Chains - ANYTHING!!
and, I'll have to second pretty much all of Katerin's songs
So what... all the parts you play in Killer Queen are originally piano chords.
*edit* GASP How could I forget...
Pearl Jam - Alive, Evenflow
Evenflow would probably be one of the insanely hard songs towards the end.
*edit2*
just remembered
Soundgarden - Burden In my Hands
Audioslave - I Am The Highway
Weezer - Buddy Holly, Hash Pipe, etc
"The pen is mightier than the flaming bag of poop" - Bart Simpson

Motley Crue: Kickstart My Heart

Cinderella: Somebody Save Me
David Lee Roth: Hot Dog & A Shake
Dokken: It's Not Love

Fantastic thread! Keep in mind, I haven't played GH1, so some of these may be in that.
Metallica: Sad but True, Seek and Destroy, Master of Puppets, Fuel, Devil's Dance
DUELING BANJOES!!!!
Velvet Revolver: Slither
Zep: Immigrant Song
Cream: Sunshine of your Love
Trapt: Headstrong
Queens of the Stone Age: Little Sister
AC/DC: A billion
Iron Maiden: 2 Minutes to Midnight, Run to the Hills, Flight of the Icarus, Wasted Years
Foo Fighters: Monkey Wrench, My Hero
Tragically Hip: Little Bones, New Orleans is Sinking
Econoline Crush: Sparkle and Shine, Surefire, Wicked
The Doors: Roadhouse Blues
Aerosmith: Sweet Emotion, Same Old Song and Dance, Kings and Queens, Toys in the Attic
Alright, I gotta stop...
Huge props to whoever said Shadow on the Sun from Audioslave. I would never have thought of that, but it's a great suggestion.
"PEACE ON EARTH. GOOD WILL TO MEN. PUBLIC SHELTER. ADMISSION 50¢"
Great suggestions everyone. While I admit that I do hope for an all-acoustic version that also includes (optional!) singing via Harmonix's "Karaoke Revolution" technology, I would like to see the following.
Living Color - Cult of Personality
Metallica - Battery
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Pearl Jam - Garden
Pearl Jam - Go
Bad Religion - A Walk
Pennywise - Unknown Road
Alice in Chains - Would
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Von Bondies - C'mon C'mon
and with that I go back to work...
ADDENDUM: Thanks a lot guys, something came over me after reading some of these suggestions and before reason got the better of me I switched my Yahoo launchast station over to the "Power Ballads" station. Motley Crue and GnR. Yee-haw!
I suddenly feel like growing my hair out.
Some great stuff there (especially Heroin Girl) but you know Death from Above 1979 don't have a guitar player right? They're bass and drums only.
I'm still right here
Giving blood, keeping faith
Pfft.
"f*ck her gently" - Tenacious D.
That Madam, is a love song.
I think you mean "Alive". Evenflow never gets very complex, but Gossard just goes nuts at the end of "Alive".
And "Lean To Fly" is the greatest Foo Fighters song. There's a reason why that album won a Grammy.
Other picks...
The Hives - Two Timing Touch And Broken Bones
The White Stripes - Any of it would be fine.
System of a Down - Toxicity
And the most important song they need to have...
The Darkness - "I Believe in a Thing Called Love"
Seriously. It's absolutely ridiculous and wonderful at the same time. Plus the final guitar solo is freaking golden. Moreover, this song absolutely demands that the game be meshed with Karaoke Revolution.

Will it come complete with a midget to stand behind you and use your balls as a speed-bag, to allow you to hit those notes? I hear that's what the Darkness singer has, on-stage.
