The beer page

Quote:
After reading SwampYankee's recent thread on Holiday brews I have been inspired to make it as easy as possible to find a excellent want to get your drink on. This page is the best brews recommended by goodjers in various posts in the forums. Organization will have to come later but for now here is the good stuff. A seperate page will be constructed one day once enough hard liquor data is collected.

Bennard's tasting note: Unless it cannot be avoided, never, ever drink beer from a can or bottle. Always drink it from a glass.

Cool idea for a shopping list, but alphabetize that stuff!

I see Magic Hat Fat Angel on there, but Number 9 should be there too.

Great idea Dr. Ghastly. Personally I'd add Rogue's Hazelnut Brown Ale. Then maybe Hair of the Dog's Fred.

For a nice winter Belgian strong ale, try Delirium Nocturnum and Delirium Tremens. Two of my very favorites.

I'll have a lot more to add later, Guiness was just the missing beer that offended me the most at first glace

Yay, a beer list! I'd much rather be doing this than out, you know, exercising or something. Luckily for me, we got 12 inches of snow the other day that won't melt off until tomorrow, so no running for me!

Wow, where to start? How about with some of the good Belgian brews I can think of? Maybe I'll add some from other countries tomorrow...

Belgian brews I'd recommend (no particular order):

Orval Trappist
Westmalle Trippel
Westvletern 12
Rochefort (any)
Witkap Stimulo
Duvel
Rodenbach Grand Cru
De Dolle (any of them--Oerbier, Stille Nacht, Arabier, Bos Keun, Dulle Teve, Extra Export Stout)

Boon (any variety)
Poperings Hommelbier

Hercule

I'm sure I forgot a bunch of them. Some of these can be pretty hard to find, but they've all been exported to the US at some point.

I am a big fan of anything Samuel Adams, keep in mind that i'm a college student and mostly everyone drinks Bud Light, and Sam Adams tastes far and beyond better than anything anyone drinks around here.

Anyways, I enjoy thier Winter Lager, the old Fezziwig ale is good too, they have some Cranberry one that's kind of strange, not very fond of that one. But I LOVE Sam Adams' Octoberfest, got a whole bunch stocked up! so I am still enjoying that while my supplies last

/* edit */
i'm pretty trashed and i think i thought i was posting on the threads about holiday beers but i suppose it is applicable here too, beer is great

Here is a great import as in the whole brewery was imported to Monterey...

English Ales

Of note are:

Ramsey's Fat Lip - my personal favorite
Black Prince Porter
Dragonslayer IPA

If you are in Silicon Valley, Trials Pub in San Jose serves these fine beverages. And yes, of course, you can only get these on tap.

I do love me some tasty micro-brews but I always get tripped up on the different types and sub-genres. Sure, I can tell a stout from a weiss beer but IPA vs APA? Yikes.

Some great Wisconsin breweries:
New Glarus (home of the ever popular Spotted Cow)
Viking (in Dallas, WI)
South Shore (in Ashland)
Lake Louie (in Arena)
Furthermore (in Spring Green)

Plus nothing beats a $1 bottle of Rhinelander (brewed in Monroe at the Huber brewery) on a hot summer night.

Another good brewery to visit in Wisconsin is Lakefront Brewery in Milwaukee. It has possibly one of the best tours I have ever been on, mostly because they let you drink the beer right from the start. And if you go on a friday you can end it with a fish fry complete with polka band playing in the dining room.

And while your touring breweries in Milwaukee be sure to check out Sprecher Brewery. It isn't as fun a tour but they do have pretty good beer.

Anchor Breweries in San Francisco, CA has some excellent brews aside from their winter ales (and they're right up the street from me, too!). Aside from those already listed, they have Anchor Steam, Anchor Bock, Old Foghorn, Liberty Ale (my favorite), and Anchor Small. Check them out if you haven't already.

I have in-lawish family that I've visited in Missoula, Montana. Big Sky Brewing Company's Moose Drool is one of the best beers I've ever had. However, their Summer Honey, which was not on your list, tops it. It's only available 6 months out of the year (April to September) and the locals tend to hoard it.

Right now there is a three pack of ales from Otter Creek you may be able to find. All three were phenomenal - I was really taken aback. Can't find any reference to them on the website, but they are worth hunting down.
