Never seen it but I've heard good things. I love Tom Clancy stuff but I generally hate popular TV serieseseses. Is 24 cheesy? I'm thinking about picking up the DVDs for cheap.

I say go for it. I really loved the series. Especially Jack Bauer's Max Payne qualities.

Because he's honestly the ONLY reason to keep watching after that.

I greatly prefer plot over characters. I won't watch a show "for" anyone. Just like I liked XFiles back when Scully and Mulder were there only to frame the story of each episode.

The first season was by far the best.
The second and third seasons were both good, but there are a number of head slapping "how many more ridiculous twists can they write into this show" moments.
On the bright side, even in it's cheesiest moments, it's still a fun show that manages to surprise you often enough to keep your interest up. It's one of the very few series that I've been able to consider myself "addicted" to.. along with Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Sopranos, and Arrested Development. I find very few television series to be worth watching, but to be fair, I've never watched any of the other hyped up series (Lost, Entourage, Firefly, etc).

I enjoyed all four season, though, and think it's a great show.

True, so true. Season 1 and 2 were DA bomb, then it went all down the toilet.
Please season 4 was awesome. No Euro trash villain. The season pissed off the muslims, that has to be worth something. Also, the wife of the terrorist bad guy was nominated for an Emmy for her performance.

Season 4 got my hopes up with the first 8 episodes because they were up there in quality with Season 2. Unlike Season 3, there was...actual... stuff... HAPPENING ! (gasp) But then it dropped the ball and it kept on rolling.
Season 4 was just one ridiculous disaster/attack after another (kidnapping of the Secretary of Defense, nuclear power plant meltdown, shootdown of Air Force One with a stolen stealth fighter, and trying to nuke LA, all within 24 hours? Give me a break), with idiotic subplot layered on top of the other, capped with the moronic conclusion involving the Chinese and Jack's demise. And Mandy wasn't even naked, dammit. 24 died when the producers decided to completely ignore the cliffhanger from season 2 and continue with the crap they've been throwing up against the wall ever since.

They did; Jack said in passing that Chase was working for a private security company, and Kim was with him. But that was all.

I rented Season 1 today.
I noticed that they always portray the bad guys having some sort of "deviant" sin. For instance, kidnappers use marihuana, and later on, heroin, and some evil girls are lesbians, while a lying woman is having an affair.
Just stood out to me. So far the only flaws Jack Bauer seems to have are his tattoos.
