Washington D.C. license plates...eh?

I notice the following motto is showing up on every Washington D.C. license plate I see
"Taxation without Representation"
Now, I understand there is a bit of a situation in Washington D.C. concerning this issue, but for it to show up on an official state license plate seems very weird to me. Is there a reason the district is doing this?

It's exactly what you think. They get taxed, and administered by Congress in many ways, but they don't get a representative in Congress.
Extremism in the defense of liberty *is* a vice. It has been since the first Crown Loyalist was tarred, feathered and set afire, and it's no better now. It corrupts first the individual, then ultimately the institution it defends.
You'll only see that on plates from a year or two ago; somebody sneaked it on there, and The Man has since removed it from new plate production. DC has always had an issue with their lack of statehood, and you'll even see them cast null votes in presidential elections as a form of protest. Nobody really pays attention to it outside the area, though. Those DC residents sure are uppity about it though. I'm sure I would be if I lived in DC, thankfully I have no desire to live in the city.

I forgot about that D.C. stuff. On the other hand, didn't Congress essentially bail them out of potential bankruptcy about ten years ago? Sounded like a sweetheart deal to me. Also, any community that continually re-elected good ol' Marion "Bitch set me up" Berry doesn't really deserve representation in my book...
