Happy Tyrian, 2005!*
I'm engaged! My girlfriend of 2+ years has graciously consented to grant me her hand in marriage!
I went for the surprise proposal, since she had figured out my earlier plan to ask her while we were on our upcoming fall vacation.
We were looking at stuff online, she was sitting at her desk, and I was behind her chair, kneeling. I had sneakily gotten the ring out of its hiding place, and casually mentioned "You know, it was somewhat of a funny coincidence that you said you wanted me to stay with you today... Because I'd like you to stay with me forever." I was on one knee (still behind the chair) , ring box open and outstretched. She turned in her chair to give me a kiss, then she saw the ring. She turned bright red, spun around in her chair (facing away from me again) and said "I can't believe you're doing this!" She spun back around, and asked "Are you asking me to marry you?"
I replied, "With all my heart!"
She shouted "Yes!", and tackled me. Much giddiness ensued, not to mention lots and lots of phone calls to family.
I know I'm more of a forum lurker than a 'regular', but I like to consider myself a peripheral part of the community, so I just wanted to share the happy news. I might not participate in all the online gaming and stuff, and I've never been invited to one of the more homoerotic shindigs that seem to coincide with E3 (which is prolly a good thing, now that I think about it. 
), and i've definitely never been the subject of GWJ FanFic, but I do consider the GWJ community to be some sort of extended (ok, really really distant) internet family. The GWJ community might have some spats, but on the whole, you're (we're? is that too self congratulatory?) all a good bunch of people.
Of course, this might be TMI. Moderators, do your worst!

* - The title comes from a mug that a friend gave me as a birthday present back in 1984, when I was.. um.. 8. It said "Happy Birthday , Rob! 1984!" Over time, the Birthday faded off the mug, but the other words remained. So, now it says "Happy Rob! 1984! ... Ok, so it doesn't really make it any funnier.

We were heading to somewhere romantic and my car broke down, so it didn't happen that day.
