Desmond Howard to Grace NCAA Football 06 Cover

Supposedly it's in support of their new "Race to the Heisman" feature...

Quote:
"Desmond Howard provided one of the most vivid Heisman moments in college football history and what better way to capture the essence of NCAA Football 06 than by putting his memorable Heisman touchdown pose on the cover of our game," said Todd Sitrin, Vice President, Marketing at EA's Tiburon studio.
...but I think they're just being lazy.

I think it''s because they wanted to probably put Leinhart on there, but didn''t want to deal with any negative pr, since Carson Palmer was there a few years back.

I think they should have put Ronnie Brown on there, but I am intensely biased.

The ironic choice? If I recall him correctly, that''s the guy where, when he was picked I viewed it as proof that the Heisman is a race I shouldn''t care about. Best player? Hah.

Don''t think they can. The player they put on the cover needs to have graduated and no longer play NCAA Football because of the Draconian NCAA rules.

Oh and I vote for Woody Hayes slugging that linebacker as the cover.

Why didn''t they put Jason White on the cover? He won the heisman, and is now in the NF...whoops, no he''s not....

he''s not in the NCAA anymore either though.

I stand my my Andre Ware (without looking it up), but Jason White is probably the least significant (at least it looks that way). Even Andre Ware made a freakin'' team. Interestinly, before 1984, it was mostly NFL stars.

So we complain when they don''t pick who we like, and then we complain when the person who they pick has a horrible season, then we make fun of who they might pick the next year, but still get pissed when that person isn''t the one we want?

Not that I care - any complaining involving EA is cool in my book.

But I''ve gotta give my thumbs up to Desmond, being from Michigan and all.

Maybe they could put the entire 2004 Auburn team on the cover, if they implemented a ""Robbed of a Shot"" feature

I think they can''t go with Leinart because he didn''t leave the NCAA.
That''s just a guess, I have no real idea how the ""the school can exploit you - but you can''t exploit you"" thing works with College atheletes.

There was an absolutely spectacular article a while ago about a U-Colorado Student-Athlete whose competition as a snowboarder in the X-Games/Olympics (the latter I think, I can''t remember) excluded him from playing from the football team, and how he was basically getting screwed.

Actually he was a skier. He had skied in the Olympics. The NCAA would not let him get his ski endorsments while he was playing football. He played like one year and then quit because of it.

White has the chance to beat out Crouch. Crouch was drafted, but never on an NFL roster during the season. White has the chance to be a #3 somewhere..... but I''m not optimistic.

Quote:
Interestinly, before 1984, it was mostly NFL stars.

College football''s different now. A lot more talent is on the teams of non-traditional powerhouse schools. But the Heisman voters are oblivious to this. In 2001, David Carr, despite leading the entire NCAA in passing, and despite being only the 6th 4000 yard + 40 touchdown QB in NCAA history, was not even a *finalist* for the award. He was behind Crouch, Ken Dorsey, Rex Grossman, and Joey Harrington (the QBs from the #1, #2, #3, and #7 teams). The voters take the top offensive players off the top rated teams, and that''s about it.

That said, voters also looked beyond the top of the polls back then. Auburn was not even in the top 20 in 1985 when Bo Jackson won. Notre Dame wasn''t in the top 20 when Tim Brown won either.

But now, the last time a Heisman winner was on a team that didn''t finish in the Top 10 was 1998 with Ricky Williams (Texas, #16). And before that, it was all Top 10''s since Ty Detmer in 1990 (BYU, #17).

Gamespot Preview (5/3/05)

Quote:
Just as players can find a special zone of performance where they can exceed their already-extraordinary abilities, the impact players in NCAA 06 can also turn it up an extra notch. By entering "the zone," as it's known, players are noticeably quicker on the field and capable of incredible dodges or bulldozing power moves (which you can control by repeatedly pressing the X button) that are showcased through special animations specifically created for these power moves. During an "in the zone" stiff-arm, for example, the camera will temporarily swing around and focus on the player in question as he viciously puts down his competition, only to immediately swing back to the traditional view of the action on the field. The entire animation only takes a few seconds to complete and isn't really distracting, though it might have been nice to have the option to turn it off if you wanted to. NCAA producers told us that these "in the zone" moments aren't that common and will usually come once you've found success with that particular player throughout the game. Certain game situations--such as rivalry games--might create "in the zone" situations; while other situations--a huge hit suffered by your star wideout, for example--will lessen your chances of reaching that mystical zone.
