Empires - VNV Nation - Totally not a genre I''ve ever listened to before, but I''m amazed at how much I like this album. Devotees of the band seem to classify them as industrial/goth/futurepop. Since I started listening to this album, I''ve tried listening to other things in the genre and nothing quite grabs me the way this album does.
The title single off of the Carla Bruni album is very pretty. Does the rest of the album hold up? It had a great video too.
I was pretty disappointed with the rock tracks on this record (as I was with the same on ''Black on Both Sides''). The guy is a legitimately great MC with a great ear for production, but his albums are just so damned uneven because he insists on out-rocking the rockers. What did you think of it?

Handsome Boy Modelling School is a good album, but damn those intermission skits get old after a few listens. Isn''t that the guy from SNL in the 70''s - the hispanic smoking father (preacher) - that does most of the skits on the album? Sure sounds like him.
Very uneven, like you said. For every ""Boogie Man"" there is one of those rock tracks. Meh. When he''s on, he''s a great MC.
Not as great as Sage, though. Man, that boy has some RAGE.

Yeah, Father Guido Sarducci. He doesn''t do them all, but most of them. The one where he talks about ""how hard it is to be handsome"", man, that had me laughing in the middle of the office.

I''ve been cycling through a fairly strange mix of CD''s lately.
Nirvana - Unplugged, Live in New York
Flaw - Through the Eyes
PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her
Sevendust - Animosity
Pearl Jam - Ten
Motograter - Self-Titled
Now, if you''re going to ask me for specific songs, well then you''re not getting an answer. I normally listen to an entire CD. If I start one in my car in the morning on the way to work, I finish it on the way home. I''m weird that way.

Well, aside from the ever-present Led Zeppelin Collection, which if you''re a Zep fan is totally worth it, as I can go months without listening to anything else...
Steve Vai - Real Illusions: Reflections
Steve Vai - The Elusive Light and Sound, Vol. 1
Both of which I just found. Then there''s always the other Vai stuff like Passion & Warfare, Sex & Religion, Fire Garden, Alien Love Secrets, etc. I really need to get another copy of Flex-Able soon. I mean, how can you go wrong with

Let''s see....this week it''s mostly been
The Decemberists - Picaresque
Morissey
Interpol - Antics
Joy Division - Substance
Belle & Sebastian - Tigermilk
Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O.
The Stills - Logic Will Break Your Heart
Sanjuro - Hour of Bewilderbeast is an excellent album - do you have Year of the Rat or whatever BDB''s (relatively) new album is called? Is it any good?
Elysium - Ball & Chain by Social D. is such a great frickin song. That reminds me that I need to download that album to my DJ.
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea.
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets
Rush - Chronicles
Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
In case you can''t tell, I''ve been on a huge prog rock kick lately.
The newest one AFAIK (and the only other one I have) is One Plus One Is One, and it''s excellent. I only recently got turned on to BDB, so Bewilderbeast and 1+1=1 are getting an inordinate amount of time in the music box with me. Bewilderbeast is the better record so far, but 1+1=1 is very, very good in its own right.
