I''m cautiously interested. I think I''ll need to wait a week or two to hear from the GWJ GW community before I make up my mind, though. I joined the beta back in November (I think), and it was very pretty, but not an amazing amount of fun. Plus, I''d have to give up precious WoW time.

Frankly WoW is a distinctly different game with different goals. I get bored of the level treadmill in those games. GW removes it while still providing stuff to do. I''ll be in it.

Considering this is more of a straight up mission-based game rather than a big open MMORPG I think it''s apples and oranges to compare with WoW. I''m hoping to get the game this week but we''ll see how that plan goes.
I''ve had a pre-order since before the World Beta last Fall; I''m definitely picking it up.
Interesting comment about the non-level treadmill; we''ll see if that''s the case.
What I recall very well about the game is the fact that you can ""hire"" NPCs to group with you. From what I''ve read recently, that has been extended/expanded a bit- so that''s in it''s favor. Truth is, I''m also disillusioned with the subscription mode; I think that ""pushes"" the treadmill aspect a bit. Think I''d rather ""own"" the game and dip in and out of it at my leisure, the way I do my non-MMORPG games.

I think part of my problem with GW is that it''s (or seems to be) so group-oriented and I''m a diehard soloer. I played CoH for about two months before I left a whole slew of level eight and nine heroes to decay; once it became necessary to group in order to advance, I pretty much lost interest. I agree with Mixo and Certis, to a point. They''re absolutely different games, but I think I''d end up choosing WoW over GW most of the time anyway. I''m definitely going to give it a good, long look in a week or two, once the GWJ contingent has some solid opinions of the retail product.

This is an excellent point, and I can''t deny the appeal. I wonder if it might tend to push away some casual gamers, though. If you''re only playing every so often, you''ll end up lagging behind your guild/friends/whatever in terms of power. If that doesn''t bother someone, great! I tend to think that there are a number of people who play MMOs for the social aspect, and while it''s great to be able to chat over a Guild channel, it''s so much better to be actively adventuring with your friends.

There are missions that are only given to groups also.
Also, this should appeal to the pvp crowd. You can actually have a character START with the max skill points. Instant pvp character. This way, you can get right into the pvp action. This player cant go into the pve areas though.

I don''t know if I''m going to opick this up or not. I''m thinking that if I''m going to do the whole MMORPG thang, then I''m probably better off joining all of you crack addicts on some WoW server.
Guild Wars seems, to me, to be aimed at the folks that loved RvR from DAoC and WoW, but hated having to level up to get there. Remove the grind and give the players their RvR fix from the start. Not sure I''ll be getting it. I''m about where I need to be to just RvR in WoW all the time and Deva''s not far off either. Plus, there''s BF2 coming soon.

Ditto. I normally don''t like MMPOGs but it looks like they fixed a lot of the things I tend to dislike.
Anyone who has played GW know if it has native support for widescreen resolutions?
A couple of friends are picking this up and I wouldn''t mind checking it out considering the lack of a monthly fee. I won''t feel so bad when I abandon it for Battlegrounds.

So Guild Wars is out today, if I''m not mistaken. If anyone could post first impressions, I''d certainly appreciate it. I''m considering picking it up.

Two copies in this house from the preorder to play open beta weekends. Frankly, WoW is better. I am not sure we even remember our passwords.

Yeah, I got an e-mail from EB Games, and apparently in the haze of the word preview weekend, I pre-ordered it.
So, I''d be willing to meet up with you guys once it comes in the mail.

I might pick it up. I''ve actually canceled my WoW account till battlegrounds and hero classes are in.
So I was thinking of playing it till I go back to wow or move on.
i have a collector''s edition on pre-order... not sure whether or not i''ll actually pick it up though.

I will probably get this. I''ll be late to the party though earliest i''ll get it is next week.
I''m still thiiis far from cancelling WoW due to treadmill issues.
I think GW will seal the deal.
Give me PVP sans treadmill please. K thanx.

I''ll be picking it up. I''m gonna try and play this Wednesday and Thursday, as well - before the servers go retail.
Already shipped on Friday, gearing up for some playtime before I move across the damned country. Good stuff.
I''ve got a key for the special Wednesday advance launch and I should have a copy of the game soon after that. See you online!

I played in the last beta weekend event and there wasn''t a GWJ guild. We''ll need to create one.
