IGN Filmforce approval.

A gaggle of high-profile reviews spooge around the uncontainable delight and enthusiasm. And the negative reviews only bring up stuff that actually sounds like helluva good thing. Such as:

Quote:
"You know you're gone beyond run-of-the-mill movie violence you need to use the plural for 'castrations.'"

Quote:
"Film noir on steroids; a movie so cool you're not supposed to be concerned about its total lack of moral grounding. Nor its profound sexism. Nor its misanthropic nihilism."

Quote:
"Talking bluntly about sex for five minutes will earn an NC-17. Showing it frankly for one minute will do the same. Maiming and slaying people in close-up for two hours -- and delighting in it -- will get you only an R."

So is anyone seeing it tonight?

P.S. I wonder why did I post it in Games and Platforms?

My local paper gave it an F (Seattle Post Intelligencer). But USA Today gave it 3 1/2 stars and couldn''t say enough about
Carla Gugino. Saying something like you''ll never be able to see here the same when view her in Spy Kids (as the mom) I loved her in the short lived detective series on TV a few months ago.

Definitely going to see it this weekend. And surprisinly the fiancee wants to see it too. I think it''s mostly the eclectic cast of actors/actresses in the movie that are attracting her.

Just from reading Rotten Tomatoes, it seems it''s an interesting movie if nothing else, so I''ll probably enjoy it.

Having just finished the 4th book in the series, I''m *so* there. Been waiting for this one for a while. The wife has a *huge* problem with violent films (she gets real jumpy/queasy...even when I point out that it''s all fake:), but she wants to go too.

On a side note, I read that Rodriguez resigned from the Directors Guild after they threatened to shut down production if he didn''t remove Frank Miller''s name from the co-director credit. Kind of makes me want to see it to validate that kind of action:)

Okay, I guess I stand corrected on that ''guy movie'' thing.

I am fairly certain that my wife would hate it, though, so my plans have not changed.

Just got back from it. Faithful to the comics doesn''t even begin to describe it. Overall, I liked it. Ninja Prostitutes are awesome.

So very, very violent. And so very, very good. Everything worked, it was really wonderful. The art, the actors, the story, everything. Was there anything at all that was left out of the movie from the books? Cause if there was I have to read them now.

I liked it. The wife was a bit disturbed by the final chapter mostly because of the appearance of the antagonist.

It is violent a elderly couple left 90 minutes in (why did they wait that long?) only other movie I''ve seen that in was South Park. The guy in the theater that laughed everytime someone bit it was a drag but the fact that some 10 year olds convinced their parents to bring them was refreshing.

My wife didn''t realize the movie would be so violent from the ads but I knew and just didn''t tell her.

Logan and I went to see it. I liked it, though I''m certain he liked it more. Very stylish, and things happen at a pace that almost seems too fast to work. But that''s how so many story threads fit into the time available. Somehow it manages to convince you to buy into the ""rules"" of what''s possible in the movie - perhaps because it doesn''t give you time to sit and ponder it.

Having just beaten God of War helps acclimatize one''s self to the violence of the movie.

This is a guy movie pure and simple. After watching it you could see all of the guys talk about how great it was and the girls just not like it. It is very violent but not realistic violence.

I man-gasm over good film noir.

Legion and I were talking idly on the walk back to his car and we pretty much came up with the idea that if Max Payne were to be converted into a movie, it would look and feel a helluva lot like Sin City.

Then we vowed to play them again.

Anyway, there are nuances and subtleties admist the bloodsoaked scenes that the casual observer doesn''t catch but understands subconsciously. And I just loved every second of it.

Ok..quick review:

Unbelievably strict translation from book to film. Having just finished the 4th book (That Yellow Bastard), I was extremely hard-pressed to find the smallest detail either visually or in dialog that didn''t match the book, er...""graphic novel"" frame for frame.

I absolutely loved it. The books are disturbing, but you can always find a flawed protagonist. The movie''s depiction of the stories definitely has more ""bite"" than the books.

My wife was completely disgusted and disturbed. Not her idea of a comic book film. My pre-movie pep-talk went like this:

1. Expect over-the-top violence.
2. Don''t expect happy endings.
3. Don''t expect to find the ""Good Guy"". There are none. Maybe Hartigan, but that can be debated.

Didn''t work. She''s still trying to shake it off like a bad pitch.

I''m going to have to dig out my Katie''s Place bouncer shirt to go see this one... my wife has accused me of wanting to be ""that guy"" by doing so, but maybe finally some non-comic book geek will realize how cool it was... almost ten years ago, anyway.

By all means, pick up the graphic novels. Frank Miller is pure genius... The books are definitely violent (do Dwight use the dog/wolf? I don''t see how they could do that part in a movie and not have folks puking up their shoes, frankly.), but it''s an incredible set of stories if you can get past that.

It looks like the problem stems from dating ''average'' girls. Difference of tastes it seems.
This looks to be the only theatrical release that may lure me out of my cave long enough to partake of some non-microwave popcorn! Checking out the trailers right now and it looks fun if nothing else.

My girlfriend for one. Her only complaint was that the movie was a bit long, but other than that we enjoyed it a great deal.

I loved it and so did my girlfriend (yes those girls do exist!) as did my buddy and his girlfriend. But we''re into all sorts of crazy over the top violent movies, you just have to see past the violence and realize it''s on a comical level - a''la Kill Bill and Peter Jackson''s Dead Alive.

I''m a sucker for Noir. Sin City pretty much exceeded my expectations and was a wild ride the whole way through. It was definitely much more violent than I thought it would be, in a rude & crude kind of way, so anyone who''s a bit squeamish should probably pass it up.

Elijah Wood''s character is the creepiest serial killer I''ve seen in a while. The stare.. the.. ahh, just go see the damn movie
